Sidney Rice probable to face Buffalo

It looks like the Seahawks will have wide receiver Sidney Rice in the lineup when they take on the Bills in Toronto this Sunday.

Rice was in a walking boot earlier this week and missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday because of a bruised foot he suffered in last week’s 58-0 romp over the Cardinals. but he was able to be a full participant in practice on Friday. That earned him a probable listing and an expected role as a target for Russell Wilson as the Seahawks try to keep the heat on the 49ers ahead of next weekend’s game.

Rice leads Seahawks receivers with 45 catches and 658 yards this season and he’s tied with Golden Tate for the lead in touchdowns with seven.

The Seahawks will be short in the secondary, though. Walter Thurmond has been ruled out of the game with a hamstring injury. Thurmond was expected to start in place of the suspended and the Seahawks will also be playing without cornerback Marcus Trufant. That means expanded roles for Byron Maxwell and Jeremy Lane on Sunday.

We’ll see if the Bills can take advantage of those absences, although it bears mentioning that they are looking for a quarterback and a wide receiver for a reason.

  1. Stephon Gilmore, Ron Brooks, Justin Rogers, George Wilson and Jarius Byrd are going to have their hands full Sunday. QB scrambles will present a problem also. The Bills are going to have to put Bryan Scott solely on the QB, otherwise they will get toasted every other down. Prime example: Arizona Cardinals

Offensively, Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to have to complete a lot of quick throws to neutralize Seattle’s pass rush. The Bills are also going to have to rely on Spiller and Choice to eat up as much time off the clock as possible, in order to give the Buffalo D some rest throughout the game.

  2. Rice got rocked after his last catch against the Cardinals.
I think this boot wearing episode might have been a diversion to justify why he was held out of practice earlier in the week.

  3. Wow down 3 CB’s is going to make it difficult, Lane and Maxwell both held up okay so I am glad they got some game time last week. A little info for people that have been following Hawks for a few years. Deon Butler was just signed to the roster. He has showed some promise and can get some work in the slot.
