New England will recognize Newtown on Sunday night

newtown

Sunday night’s game in New England will begin on an appropriately somber note, with recognition of the 26 people who were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday.

The Patriots will be wearing black-ribbon logos on their helmets, and they will light 26 white flares during a moment of silence before Sunday night’s game against the 49ers, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft owns a company that has a factory less than a mile from Sandy Hook Elementary School, and the parking lot there was used as a meeting place for reporters covering the events on Friday.

The Jets and Giants have both announced plans to wear helmet decals reading S.H.E.S., for Sandy Hook Elementary School, this week. All NFL games will include a moment of silence before the national anthem.
