After gaining 50 pounds this year, Jordan Black busted for PEDs

Redskins offensive tackle Jordan Black has boasted this year that he put on 50 pounds to get back up to his playing weight of 310 and return to the NFL after missing the entire 2011 season. But an announcement from the Redskins today calls into question Black’s claims that he did it by drinking protein shakes and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

The Redskins announced that Black has been suspended for the next four games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Although the NFL doesn’t reveal which specific banned substance a suspended player tested positive for, when we’re talking about a player who openly discussed the importance of weight gain this year, it seems unlikely that he’ll use the Adderall excuse.

The 32-year-old Black didn’t play in the NFL after the Saints cut him at the end of the 2011 preseason, and when no other team signed him he figured his NFL career was over, so he said he made a conscious effort to lose weight in order to be healthier in retirement. But when the Redskins called, he said he felt the need to put on a lot of weight quickly so that he could play offensive line in the NFL again this year.

Whatever he did to put on that mass, it worked well enough that Black made the Redskins’ roster and has played in all 14 games this season. But now Black’s season is over.

  1. Why bother with the illegal PED’s? You are going to get caught, they always do.
Why not actually try gaining weight the natural way? 10,000 calorie a day diet, massive amounts of peanut butter, eggs and pasta every day, it works. I know Its not super quick, but here’s the thing… you won’t be suspended. If you care not to go that route, how about creatine? Its expensive, but legal. And it works, quick.

  2. Pretty sure Jordan Black has not played in every game this year. Although maybe he should have in place of garbage Tyler Polumbus…the roids might of helped the blocking off the right side!

Michael David Smith: You are incorrect. He has played in every game this season.

Ohmigod! The Redskins’ third-string right tackle who has played 20 or 30 snaps all year was cheating!!? Quick, suspend the entire franchise for the rest of the season and take away all their draft picks for the next decade! The NFL needs to send a strong message to talentless 38-year-old journeymen cheating in order to earn a living for their families.

He’s probably on the punt protection unit or something.

Point being, while I by no means condone cheating of any form in professional sports, especially PEDs, one has to take some objection to the way this article was structured.

I was joking around before, but it is irksome that the article never makes clear that Black was next in line on the chopping block during the preseason, that he’s Washington’s third string tackle, or that he’s only taken 20-30 snaps on the actual offensive line all year, when their backup RT went down with a concussion.

  6. Why is it as soon as these guys as backups are needed, they get popped- Polumbus gets hurt & this guy’s gonna start next week ( in all likelihood) and Bam- he’s suspended… About 4 weeks ago same thing with Cedric Griffin, one good game, others are hurt & the Redskins need him, Bang-4 game suspension… On the eve of the regular season, Bang- Tanard Jackson suspended for the season… I suspect decision makers are involved in this process who are against the Redskins….

  7. I understand that many of you see sports a some noble profession that produces heroes for your children or the 9 year old version of yourself, but its time to grow up. Nearly everyone at the highest levels of any sport is using drugs.

These guys are clowns paid well to entertain us. Enjoy the entertainment and stop worrying what to tell your kid about Adderol, and enjoy it for what it is. Think I’m full of it? Listen to Joe Rogan’s podcast interview of Victor Conte. You’ll gain a good understanding of why the people who control big time sports don’t care a wit about any of this stuff.

  8. All I know is that losing this guy means absolutely nothing to the Redskins… The only time this guy even got a chance to play O-Line this year was when Trent Williams got injured in the Bengals game and this guy LITERALLY could not block ANYONE, which was part of why the Skins lost that game as well as why RG3 took some nasty hits that game… If anything, assuming Montgomery or one of the other starters cannot play, it might be a good chance to get one of the rookies (Gettis/Compton/LaRibeus) some experience in a big game against the injured and under-performing Eagles, and I bet they play better than he would have played anyway… Though it is crazy how this guy gained 50 pounds on PEDs – those things are serious! haha

I know you’re mostly kidding, but either wayI don’t really see a conspiracy so much as some bad luck and some poor judgment.

The Bucs knew Tanard Jackson was going to be suspended this season, that’s why they cut him. Either someone in Washington didn’t do their homework, or the honus was on Tanard to let the staff know about his failed drug tests, and he didn’t come clean: bad luck/bad judgment.

    Cedric Griffin: bad luck

Jordan Black: Polumbus had a minor concussion, and there’s no reason he shouldn’t be back next week, if not Compton will probably be ready to go: bad luck for the Redskins and bad judgment on Black’s part (now his career is over AND his nuts don’t work).

  10. When Sherm and Browner failed their tests a lot of people were calling the Seahawks cheaters.

So… Redskins are all cheaters, including RGIII

  11. He was active every game but baked up Tyler Polumbus, every game. He came in last week after Polumbus got a concussion. He’s a backup RT. nothing to see here. Move along.

  12. “When Sherm and Browner failed their tests a lot of people were calling the Seahawks cheaters.

Right, because two starting corners who are a major strength of Seattle’s defense taking PEDs is the same as a 3rd string right tackle.

  13. Lol! Seriously, 80% or more of pro football players use PEDs of some kind. They all know when they will be tested, so most of them fly under the radar.
Doesn’t it seem a little fishy when a player breaks his arm, then returns 2-3 weeks later! Lets all not be naive
