Report: Tebow will ask to be traded or released

Tebow

In a move that will surprise no one -- not even the most ardent believer that Tim Tebow will absorb any and all indignities and then say he’s “excited” for more -- Tebow will ask to be traded or released by the Jets if Greg McElroy starts the last two games of the season, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Tebow surely won’t say anything publicly. Privately, he’ll make his beliefs known.

Of course, he may not have to. Why keep a guy that you rarely use? Unless the Jets simply don’t want to have to worry about facing him in the future, they should let him go.

Tebow, we’d previously been told, picked the Jets over the Jaguars because he believed that Jets coach Rex Ryan desperately wanted Tebow on the team, and fully intended to use him. In Jacksonville, owner Shahid Khan was pro-Tebow, but the front office and coaching staff were lukewarm.

The Jets could have given the job to Tebow for the final two weeks in the hopes of building trade value. But if, as Erik Kuselias pointed out during tonight’s edition of Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports Network, Tebow had performed well in those two games, the green-and-white Tebowmaniacs may have loudly clamored for Tebow to get a crack at the starting job next season.
