Knee injury forces Daniel Thomas to IR

The Dolphins will play the final two games of the season without running back Daniel Thomas.

Thomas was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a knee injury suffered in last week’s win over the Jaguars. Thomas’ season ends with 325 yards and four touchdowns on 91 carries as a complement to Reggie Bush in the Miami backfield. That was a drop in usage from the 2011 second-round pick’s rookie season, with the fact that Bush has been in the lineup all season accounting for the decline.

Bush may not be in the lineup at all in 2013, though. He’s set to become a free agent and said recently that there aren’t any contract talks underway with the team. Thomas would be in position to benefit from Bush’s absence, assuming he leaves, as long as he remains in front of 2012 fourth-rounder Lamar Miller and anyone else that the team brings in.

The Dolphins signed defensive back Julian Posey off the practice squad. He joins Dimitri Patterson, claimed off waivers Tuesday, as new members of the Miami secondary.
