Source: Jets have made no decisions about Sanchez

Sanchez2

In response to the report from Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that the Jets will try to trade quarterback Mark Sanchez, a source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that no decisions have been made regarding Sanchez’s future with the team.

Per the source, the Jets will consider all options after the season. Eventually, a determination will be made.

Of course, it’s impossible to consider all options without knowing whether anyone is willing to trade for Sanchez and, if so, what they would offer -- both in compensation to the Jets and contribution to the $8.25 million base salary for which the Jets are on the hook.

So it’s not that the Jets will “try” to trade Sanchez. They’ll look at every option and then make a decision.

That’s the smarter way to proceed. If, after all, the Jets have decided to trade Sanchez and only one team is interested, the Jets will have zero leverage. In that case, the possibility of keeping him becomes the tool for squeezing better terms.
