Former NFL player Joey Porter remains in jail after he was arrested on Friday on a felony warrant for writing a check without sufficient funds.

The Bakersfield Californian reports that Porter was pulled over for a traffic stop in Bakersfield on Friday night, and detained when officers discovered that he had a felony warrant in Clark County, Nevada.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office website lists Porter as still jailed with no bail, with an expected release date of December 26. So it appears that Porter will be spending Christmas behind bars.

This isn’t the first time Porter has found himself in trouble in Clark County, Nevada, where Las Vegas is the county seat. In 2007, Porter was issued a summons on a misdemeanor battery charge for a fight with then-Bengals offensive lineman Levi Jones in a Las Vegas casino. Porter was also arrested in 2010 for drunk driving, although those charges were later dropped.

Porter played eight seasons for the Steelers, three for the Dolphins and two for the Cardinals before retiring this year. No details have been made public about the nature of the bad checks he allegedly wrote, but if he has gone broke that would be a stunningly fast financial collapse for a man who was still earning NFL players as recently as a year ago, and who made tens of millions of dollars in his NFL career.
