Vernon Davis cleared for non-contact activity

49ers tight end Vernon Davis sustained a concussion during Sunday night’s loss to the Seahawks.  On Thursday, he took a significant step toward returning to action.

Davis was cleared by an independent neurologist to resume non-contact activities, according to Matt Maiocco of

The 49ers will eventually put Davis through a contact drill.  If he has no concussion symptoms, he’ll then be referred to the independent neurologist for final clearance.

The 49ers host the Cardinals on Sunday.  If San Fran loses, they also could lose both a first-round bye and the division title.

  1. As a 49ers fan, would love to see him healthy heading into the playoffs. Might be a good week to sit him. Thtat was a hell of a (totally legit) shot he took Sundaynight.

  2. Welcome back time to go win the west title again !!! niners are a beast another nine probowlers we are the west !!!! seasquaks can try again next year…. niners will be in the superbowl!!!! go niners

  3. Maybe Davis can come back and make it 6 catches in 6 games. They’ve really leaned on him pretty heavily this season.

  4. As a 49ers fan I have to say that was one of the most violent and completely LEGAL hits I’ve seen. As a person I just want VD to be better. That hit was just scary.

  5. Hey sea chicken fan, we’ve still got four out of the last five wins, 5 Lombardi trophies, and a fairly easy game against a jr high team for the division. Your team is excellent but you’ll need to win a few more for it to even be a rivalry…

  6. Keep dusting off thoses old trophies, How many Super Bowls have there been since your last one?
I got a better one, How many times have you been to the playoff since the Hawks came back to the NFC West?
Just love being in your way, since we suck so bad where was your team from 2002 to 2010.

You can tell when niner fans are worried about the Hawks, they start dusting off those old trophies. and talkin crap. Most of there fans wernt old enought to watch the game that they won

  7. @norcalseahawkfan…. At least we HAVE trophies to dust off Champ. Even when the Seachickens were winning the division the 9ers were beating them. Maybe you shouldn’t let that 1 win fool you. It was a great win under the lights, I won’t deny that, but it was only one win and a series split for 2012. Stop being so defensive little brother. Have a great one. 🙂

  8. You can’t dust off any trophies if you don’t have any. Keep talking about division dominance in a decade while we talk about 5 Super Bowls. You seem to talk about the past but want to limit it to 2002. Why is that?

    Pot, meet kettle.

  9. Joe to Jerry, when’s the last time the niners won a championship? congratulations if you were part of that Nearly TWO DECADES AGO.. How’s your whole AARP thing going these days?

  10. I was at the game Sunday Night. Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott et al weren’t on the field that I saw…

Keep on trotting them 5 trophies on out there, though…

Glad to hear that V Davis is doing OK. Dude is a beast of a TE.
You are definitely gonna need him if you play Seattle again 😉
