Lynch thinks Schiano wore out the Bucs, physically and mentally

The rookie wall has taken on a somewhat different dynamic in Tampa.

Typically, we hear about first-year NFL players having a hard time when football season extends beyond the 11 or 12 games with which they are familiar. For first-year NFL head coach Greg Schiano, it could be that the way he manages a team of boys who play only 11 or 12 games is finally catching up with a group of men who play 16.

FOX analyst John Lynch, who played for the Buccaneers and the Broncos, believes that Schiano has worn his pro team down.

“It’s a team that I think had a very demanding coach,” Lynch said, via Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times. “And I think they’re out of gas both mentally and physically.”

Schiano disagrees that the tanks are empty. “I think the number of reps we do are very, very selective,” Schiano told Holder. “We’ve made an attempt to keep our guys fresh because I do know that is the key when you have talented guys over a long period of time. Some of them are older.

“But when you lose and you don’t have that emotion because you’ve lost, that makes people emotionally tired. And when you’re winning, as we were for four weeks straight, it emotionally energizes you. Winning cures all.”

It definitely does. And losing creates frustration. And there’s plenty of frustration right now within the organization. Or at least within the locker room.
