Some owners could get cold feet

Trump

When the coaching carousel begins to spin tonight, more than 10 of those horses with poles impaling their torsos could be empty.

Right now, the potential hot spots include the Bills, Jets, Browns, Titans, Jaguars, Chiefs, Chargers, Eagles, Cowboys, Bears, Panthers, Cardinals, plus the nearly annual surprise firing that comes from out of the blue and surprises everyone.

But here’s the thing to keep in mind. For every vacancy there must be a viable candidate to fill it. If there are too many jobs open, it could be hard to find enough new coaches.

That could cause some owners to refrain from doing their best Donald Trump impersonation, choosing the devil they know over the devil they don’t and giving the current head coach one more season to get things right before moving on.

In the end, each owner has to ask himself whether he thinks he can find a coach as good or preferably better than the man who currently has the job. This year, that could be an expensive proposition if multiple owners are eyeballing the same coach to provide the potential upgrade.
