Christian Ponder makes brief appearance during warmups

All eyes were on Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder during pregame warmups in Green Bay, but they didn’t get much of a look.

Ponder is reportedly dealing with elbow bursitis and reports throughout the day have increasingly pointed to Joe Webb getting the start against the Packers.

Multiple reporters at the game reported that Ponder made a very brief appearance when the Vikings got loose on Saturday afternoon. Kevin Seifert of writes that Ponder threw 10-15 passes, none of which traveled more than 15 yards. Ponder had a “lengthy discussion” with offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and trainer Eric Sugarman before leaving the field. Musgrave was then spotted talking to General Manager Rick Spielman.

If all that sounds a bit too grave, Judd Zulgad of reports that Musgrave then kicked a few field goals with Webb and third-stringer McLeod Bethel-Thompson.

We’ll find out shortly who will be leading the Vikings offense against the Packers. Or handing off to the leader, anyway.

  1. Just saw “highlights” of Ponder warming up. He wasn’t throwing at even 25% effort. He either gets a shot and has a real warm up, or he doesn’t even suit up.

  2. I don’t think it matters who starts the key to the game for the Vikings is Adrian Peterson playing like last week and their defensive line stopping the GB running game and pressuring Aaron Rodgers. If they can do that all they need their QB to do is not turn the ball over and convert on a few key third downs either with a short pass or with their feet.

For the Packers if Joe Webb starts and they can win the game they should be well prepared for a similar 49ers offense next week.

  3. Webb will light up the packers with his running and passing I am booking my flight to San fran

  4. I wonder if you would make the same statement that it doesn’t matter who starts at QB for the packers if Rodgers was hurt? Of course you wouldn’t. This is an obvious advantage for the pack that Ponder can’t start. Webb hasn’t thrown a pass all year. This just makes the vikes even more one dimensional. However how sweet would it be if the packers lost to a backup QB who hasn’t thrown a pass all season !

He’s got an arm like Sanchez, the accuracy of Tebow, and the toughness of Cutler. Good pick Vikes!!!

And yet, the Vikes are still in the playoffs while those other QBs are not. Second year rookie QB helped us get into the playoffs so yes I would say its a good pick.

  6. how do people still bash on Cutler’s toughness…..give me a freaking break. Is there anyone else that plays with type 1 diabetes, gets hit the amount of times he does behind his screen door of a line. I get that you hate his personality, but the toughness thing is tired.

  7. Jay Cutler has made the playoffs only once in his sorry ass career. And Ponder stole a page out of Jay’s playbook by watching the playoff action from the sideline.
