RG3: There was no way I was coming out

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is going to have an MRI on his right knee Monday and he said Sunday evening that “it’s up in the air” as to how serious the injury to his knee might be.

Griffin faced a similar line of questioning to coach Mike Shanahan about the decision to keep him in the 24-14 loss to the Seahawks after he aggravated his knee injury in the first quarter. Griffin said he told Shanahan he was O.K. when asked and that he came out of the game in the fourth quarter because he was no longer able to give that answer. He was also asked what would have happened if Shanahan did take him out of the game.

“I’d probably been right back out there on the field. You respect authority and I respect coach Shanahan but at the same time you have to step up and be a man sometimes. There was no way I was coming out of the game,” Griffin said. “It’s an awkward conversation you never want to have with a head coach. You don’t want him to ever feel like you’re lying to him. I wasn’t lying to him, I was able to play. Period. If he would have pulled me out, I would have been highly upset but that’s his prerogative. He kept me in.”

The injury might have cost them a game on Sunday. We’ll find out this week if there’s a greater cost to come.
