The Philadelphia Eagles have been as transparent as any team when it comes to their coaching search, sending out tweets and texts and emails and other updates regarding the status of the effort to replace Andy Reid.
Most recently, the Eagles have sent out an email regarding the upcoming interview of former Bears coach Lovie Smith and containing a link to a video message from G.M. Howie Roseman.
Actually, it’s an interview of Roseman by Dave Spadaro of the team’s official website. But the 95-second spot comes off initially as a commercial for the Eagles organization — and finally as an effort to help keep fans from getting too antsy about the absence of a head coach.
“The key is getting the right guy,” Roseman says.
Along the way, Roseman openly suggests that any interested candidate call Andy Reid, who was let go last week after 14 years on the job. And while Reid would likely take the high road and talk about the good things not the bad, it’s odd to think that any organization would rely on someone who was just, you know, fired to help sell the place.
Despite the organized P.R. effort that’s accompanying the coaching search, there’s still no clear sense that, as the Eagles search for the “right guy,” they know precisely where they’re going to find him.
