If at first you don’t succeed, give it a shot with a new general manager.

A year after interviewing for the Jaguars job that went to Mike Mularkey, Brian Schottenheimer will get a chance to replace him.

According to multiple reports, the Jags asked for permission to interview the Rams offensive coordinator Thursday.

While many have linked new Jags GM David Caldwell to his old college friend, 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, Schottenheimer’s the first in line. Owner Shad Khan was in on last year’s interview, but Caldwell’s the one he’ll have to impress.

If the 49ers fall out of the playoffs this weekend, Roman will likely surface quickly.
