The Falcons didn’t get much use out of John Abraham yesterday, but Falcons coach Mike Smith indicated his only real pass-rusher’s injury wasn’t terribly serious.
Abraham only played 15 snaps yesterday after aggravating an ankle injury and leaving in the second quarter.
“We anticipate John will be back out practicing with us before the end of the week,” Smith said Monday, via Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com.
Abraham vowed to play this week, and Smith said Sunday that taking him out was “precautionary.”
Without him, they had to rely on Cliff Matthews and rookie Jonathan Massaquoi.
At least they have experience trying to chase down a mobile quarterback. While the Falcons were able to get by Russell Wilson, trying to contain 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the NFC Championship Game could be a more difficult challenge, and containing him to the pocket will be even more of a priority.
