Rob Ryan to interview with Rams on Saturday

It’s been more than five minutes since he was fired by the Cowboys, but Rob Ryan might be closing in on a new job.

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Ryan will interview with the Rams about becoming their defensive coordinator on Saturday. Ryan was fired after two seasons running the defense in Dallas, a turn of events he shrugged off by saying that he wouldn’t be out of work for five minutes before landing with another team.

It has looked like the Rams were going to be that team for a while now. There were reports last week that Ryan had accepted the coordinator job with the Rams, but those turned out not to be true. If all goes well with Saturday’s interview, there’s a good chance that they’ll move from incorrect to premature.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher played under Buddy Ryan, Rob’s father, when he was a member of the Bears in the 1980’s and served as the elder Ryan’s defensive coordinator with the Eagles. The Rams went without a defensive coordinator last season after Gregg Williams’ suspension left them without the man they hired to fill the role.
