Reggie McKenzie mum on plans for Rolando McClain

In a recent sit-down with several members of the media, Raiders G.M. Reggie McKenzie didn’t discourage any questions.  For some , however, he politely declined to give a substantive answer.

McKenzie was particularly mum regarding linebacker Rolando McClain, who was recently arrested for applying a false name (he signed “F–k Y’all” on the dotted line) during a window-tint traffic stop.

The second-year G.M. opted not to respond to the question of whether there has been a resolution regarding McClain, who was suspended two games during the 2012 season for conduct detrimental to the team.  “I don’t want to kind of give any information out,” McKenzie said.

McKenzie said that McClain “was not an issue” after his suspension, and that neither McKenzie nor coach Dennis Allen have talked to — or plan to talk to — McClain about the latest arrest.

It’s unclear whether McClain’s status is influenced the cap hit the Raiders would absorb from cutting him.  McKenzie hinted that, in 2012, the Raiders’ $30 million cap excess may have saved McClain from being released.

  1. Maybe it is just me but there seems to be alot of teams at or over the salary cap this year. Do the GMs and other team personnel need to get more education on the salary cap rules or are they just signing alot of bad contracts?
I find it interesting that the Patriots always seem to be 15 to 20 million dollars under the salary cap every year. What gives?

  2. McClain sucks on the field and is a cancer in the locker room. Bite the bullet, take the cap hit and cut him loose.

  3. The guy can’t find the ball, can’t get off blocks and can’t tackle.
He should have been trade bait a year ago… Too late now.

Just cut him and take the hit. Addition by subtraction.

  4. Well done, Reggie! My man is a graduate of the Ted Thompson school of tight lips.

You’ve learned your lessons well, grasshopper!

  5. Dump him, Palmer, Tommy Kelly, and the coaches!!

    Lets see electrifying players only:
    Terrelle Pryor
    and Marcel Reece!!!

Just cut him and then watch the Bungals sign him, he’s perfect for them.

  7. I don’t understand how guys that have been perennial winners throughout college gets to the pros, and then they can’t cut it. Maybe its going to perennial losers like the Raiders (over the last decade, no disrespect to how great they were in the ’70s and ’80s), but its seems like when a great college player who’s not used to losing goes to an organization and lose a lot, its hard to stay up…..but that’s just 1 mans opinion.

  8. McClain was good in college but never made the upgrade to to the pro’s. He’s had his chance on the field and off the field with nothing but failure. Maybe some other team can help him play better and grow up. Trade him. I still think the Raiders can get a draft pick out of him even though it’s going to be a low one. Maybe if he sees what he’s worth on the market, he’ll change his attitude. The Pat’s seem to help the weak minded players, send him there.

  9. What a disappointment he is! Worse yet, he dons the number once worn by GREAT MLBs Dan Conners & Matt Millen… If he is kept, he should be forced to change his number!
