Aaron Maybin was a major bust as a first-round draft pick, but he’s not done in the NFL just yet.

The Bengals have announced that they signed Maybin, a 2009 first-round draft pick of the Bills who most recently played for the Jets.

Buffalo spent the 11th overall pick in the draft on Maybin and thought he could develop into an elite NFL pass rusher, but to say that turned out to be a major disappointment would be a major understatement. Maybin played 27 games in two seasons with the Bills and recorded zero sacks.

Maybin did, however, show some promise as a pass rusher with the Jets in 2011, when he recorded six sacks as a situational pass rusher. But Maybin didn’t do much in 2012 before being released during the season.

For the Bengals, there’s no harm in giving Maybin a shot to show what he can do during the offseason. Whether he makes the 53-man roster in eight months is another question.
