One of the NFL’s best player Twitter accounts decided to call it a career this weekend.

Football, not Twitter.

Former Bears and Panthers (and briefly Lions and Jaguars) safety Chris Harris announced his retirement Saturday night. The former sixth-rounder finished his career with 16 interceptions and 14 career forced fumbles.

“After 8 awesome yrs in the NFL I’m deciding to retire,” he tweeted. “This was one heck of a ride and I’ve been extremely blessed to have played this game.”

Harris spent half his career with the Bears, but might have played his best football with the Panthers, forcing eight fumbles in 2007.

He’s also one of the most engaged players on the social network, active with fans and always willing to share his opinions, which we hope he continues.
