San Francisco defensive tackle Justin Smith isn’t shy about saying the 49ers are the best team he’s been on.

Asked at a press conference after the 49ers arrived in New Orleans about the talent level of the 49ers, Smith said it’s unlike anything he’s ever seen.

“It’s ridiculous,” Smith said. “You look around our locker room, and from head to toe, the offensive line, receivers, DBs, defensive line. It’s just the main reason we’re here. The talent level, what the coaches have been able to get out of us, it just all has come together. This roster is loaded.”

Smith was the fourth overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft, and he’s one of 15 players on the 49ers’ roster who was a first-round draft pick. Smith said that kind of collection of talent on one roster doesn’t come around often.

“I think it’s a big reason why we are where we’re at,” Smith said.
