When the Rams moved on from their near-marriage to Rob Ryan, Dick Jauron jumped to the top of the list of names rumored to be in the running for their defensive coordinator job.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reports that the team has now met with Jauron about the position. There’s no indication about how that meeting went, although Jauron would seem to make sense given his 4-3 background after things reportedly fell apart over schematic differences.

Jauron was the defensive coordinator in Cleveland for the last two seasons, finding a bit more success in 2011 than they had this season. He was let go after new coach Rob Chudzinski hired Ray Horton to replace him. The former Bills and Bears head coach has also been a coordinator with the Lions and Jaguars during a long coaching career.

The Rams have been without a defensive coordinator since Gregg Williams was suspended by the league before the 2012 season. There’s been talk of Williams joining the Titans when he gets the go-ahead to return from Roger Goodell, leaving the Rams at least a little bit of time to land a new defensive chief before Williams returns to the game.
