With the Super Bowl now in the books and college football’s national signing day coming on Wednesday, the remaining coaching vacancies left in the NFL are likely to be filled in the near future.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have gone into to college ranks to fill another position on their coaching staff. According to Stephen Wiseman of The Herald-Sun, Duke assistant coach Ron Middleton will be leaving the Blue Devils to join the Jaguars coaching staff.
Middleton has served as associate head coach, tight ends coach and special teams coordinator on David Cutcliffe’s staff for the last five seasons. His only prior NFL coaching experience was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a tight ends coach from 2004-06 on Jon Gruden’s coaching staff. Jacksonville head coach Gus Bradley served alongside Middleton on the Buccaneers coaching staff in 2006.
Middleton played 10 seasons in the NFL for five different teams. He won Super Bowl XXVI as a member of the Washington Redskins for the 1991-92 season.
