Gary Brown got his professional playing career underway in Houston, but he’ll continue his coaching career elsewhere in the Lone Star State.
Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com reports that Brown is expected to be officially named the team’s new running backs coach next week. Brown has been in that role with the Browns for the last four years under both Eric Mangini and Pat Shurmur, but didn’t make it to a third head coach this offseason.
The Cowboys fired Skip Peete after the end of the season, the worst of any 16-game year in their history. There were decent explanations -- problems on the offensive line all season and DeMarco Murray missed time with a foot injury -- but they weren’t enough to keep Peete from falling victim to the changes hitting Dallas this offseason. Brown dealt with injuries to Trent Richardson in Cleveland as the Browns finished 24th in the league in rushing yards in 2012.
Brown spent eight years in the NFL, rushing for 1,000 yards twice and finishing with 4,300 yards and 24 overall offensive touchdowns.
