The Giants let defensive tackle Chris Canty go last week and he isn’t wasting any time trying to find a new team.

Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that Canty has visited with the Titans and lined up a visit with the Chiefs since getting released in a cost-saving move by the Giants. Garafolo also reports that Canty is expected to make more visits in the coming weeks.

The interest in Canty isn’t surprising. With free agency not starting for another month, there aren’t many experienced contributors out on the open market at this point in time. Canty also has experience playing in both 4-3 and 3-4 fronts, versatility that will help him continue to draw interest from teams looking to solidify their defensive line for the 2013 season.

Kansas City is expected to run a 3-4 under new defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, so Canty would likely slot in as an end with the Chiefs. Defensive end Glenn Dorsey is a free agent while Tyson Jackson is a long shot to return thanks to middling production and a salary in excess of $14 million for 2013 under his current deal.

Tennessee doesn’t have as many expected departures from their 4-3 front, but Canty would certainly find a place on a run defense that gave up more than 127 yards per game in 2012.
