The Saints have around $20 million worth of salary cap room to create before the start of free agency.

They started creating it this week by restructuring the deal of linebacker Curtis Lofton, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com.

The Saints created $4 million worth of 2013 room by turning a $5 million roster bonus into a signing bonus which can be prorated for accounting purposes.

It pushes more of a hit into future years, but was likely the kind of paperwork flip that both sides knew was coming the day they signed the deal.
