The war of words between the NFL’s two best cornerbacks continues.
A day after Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis ripped Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman for running his mouth, Sherman appeared on NFL AM and said Revis needs to show him more respect.
“He came off disrespectful, so words need to be said,” Sherman said. “Apparently, he is going to disrespect my game. I don’t know what he has done – stats wise – to earn the right to talk down to people. He has never had more than six [interceptions] in a season so let’s quiet down.”
It is true that Sherman had eight interceptions last season and Revis has never had more than six, but some would argue that Revis gets fewer interceptions because quarterbacks usually stay away from him. Sherman, however, says that’s not the case.
“If you really check the stats, there is nobody that quarterbacks don’t throw at . . . they have thrown at you, you just haven’t picked the ball off,” Sherman said of Revis.
After Revis said Sherman runs his mouth like a girl, Sherman responded in kind.
“I am not going to let no dude talk like a little girl and just walk freely,” Sherman said. “I am going to quiet him down the best way I know how. . . . It is about respect. You are not going to let a guy run his mouth, I am not that kind of person [to] let a guy say bold statements and let them ride. It is not who I am and who I am not going to be.”
This little war of words has been an amusing diversion during a slow time in the NFL year. Even though Sherman and Revis really should stop using “girl” as an insult.
