Jason Garrett “absolutely” expects Jay Ratliff on team in 2013

The recent arrest of Cowboys defensive tackle Jay Ratliff on drunk driving charges have led to calls for his departure from the team for getting arrested so soon after Cowboys linebacker Jerry Brown died as a result of defensive tackle Josh Brent driving drunk.

If Ratliff is going to be shown the door, it’s news to coach Jason Garrett. Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Indianapolis Friday, Garrett said he “absolutely” expects to have Ratliff on the roster for the 2013 season. The Cowboys met with MADD for a “very educational” meeting last week, but they have been mainly quiet about Ratliff’s arrest since a statement shortly after the incident.

Teams are technically barred from handing out punishments like fines or suspensions for players who have violated the personal conduct or substance abuce policies, but they are free to release the player. If the Cowboys did drop Ratliff, they’d realize about $1 million in salary cap savings for the 2013 season.

For now, though, that doesn’t seem to be on the team’s to-do list.

  1. As a Cowboy fan I could care less if he stays on the team. When are these guys going to learn. He just lost a teammate to this idiocy, maybe being let go is best for everyone and might make others wake up.

  2. Jason may expect him to be on the team, but what does Jerry want. As we all know he calls all the shots and it wouldn’t shock me that he’s the one calling plays next year. Some may scoff at that, but seriously would anyone be that surprised if Jerry started calling the plays?

  3. “The Cowboys met with MADD for a “very educational” meeting last week”….Wonder if Jay attended.

  4. We gotta bring J Ratt back.. He is a true motivator..He is the Alpha Male in the locker room…I didn’t say he was perfect..for all you haters and cowboy fans that is hatin’! The man made a mistake..leave it at that! Now that being said, Let A. Spencer walk, Put Bass and Hatcher in the middle Ratliff on the left and Ware on the Right with Lissemore and Albright rotating in keeping offenses on their heels.

It’s “I couldn’t care less”. If you could care less it means you care. Why does everyone have so much trouble getting this right?

  6. This comes as no surprise to me. It’s typical of Jason. Ratliff’s best years are far behind him, he has trouble staying healthy enough to play, and now we realize he has off field issues. That’s Jason’s kind of guy!

  7. Put Jay op of ware and watch them two light it up! As for the Alfred Morris comment give me a break please, he has talent but he isn’t scaring ANYBODY on that Dallas D or the rest of the NFL for that matter period!

I absolutely expect Alfred Morris to shred Dallas and pick up two easy wins vs the Cowboys. Again.

The moron strikes again. GOD is on RGKnee’ side, GOD is on the Foreskins side, we will win the Super Bowl, I’m planning to be at the victory parade, Shanarat is the best coach Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah. What happen after the 1 and done playoff game bastard? You disappeared quicker than Houdini. Matter fact your whole fane base kept ending every port on here with HTTR. One and done in the playoffs sure change that. What a fan base. I would worry about Shanarta destroying your so called Super Bowl champion. I’m just glad it wasn’t the same knee he tore up at Baylor. OOOOOps I forgot….. I can’t wait for Ratliff to put a helmet on that knee to test it out. Now don’t go crying about how mean that sounds because when Romo had broken ribs your wuss CB came out saying the same exact thing. I can’t wait till Lee, Carter, Ware, Spencer put their helmet on that knee to test it. No go cry about how the league needs to protect RGKnee.

  9. soon the gypsy queen in a glaze of Vaseline will perform on Billie jean what a scene what a scene. the show just keeps on goin’.

  10. Seriously? They met with Mothers Against Drunk Driving?

What Jerry should’ve done was flown their real mothers to facility secretly and had them speak to these clowns. Mmmmhmm!
