There’s a former Secretary of State who is assuming a significant role in an NFL project.

And it’s not Condoleezza Rice.

The Texans have announced that James Baker, who served in that role under President George H.W. Bush, will serve as the honorary chairman of the local bid committee.  Local executive Richard “Ric” Campo will serve as the actual chairman of the committee.

Houston has hosted one other Super Bowl at Reliant Stadium, in 2004.  It was regarded as the quid pro quo for the construction of the stadium.

Either Houston of the loser of the San Francisco versus Miami showdown for Super Bowl L will host Super Bowl LI.
