Raiders will try to chop down Carson Palmer’s salary

350x-1

With Raiders G.M. Reggie McKenzie telling Pro Football Talk on Friday that there will be competition at the quarterback position, it makes no sense to continue to pay one of the candidates like an undisputed franchise quarterback.

And so it’s no surprise that the Raiders will try to “restructure” Carson Palmer’s contract, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

In Palmer’s case, a restructuring would be more along the lines of a steep pay cut. Palmer is due to earn a base salary of $13 million in 2013.

Two weeks ago, we pointed out on Pro Football Talk that Palmer could face a reduction similar to Mike Vick’s new deal, which dropped from a base salary of $15.5 million to a maximum package of $10 million, if the Eagles win the Super Bowl and if Vick takes 90 percent of the snaps this season.
