Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is close to coming to terms on a restructuring of his contract to free up cap space this year.

NFL Network’s Albert Breer reports that a renegotiated deal is expected to be completed this week, although neither the Steelers nor Roethlisberger’s camp are giving any details at the moment.

Roethlisberger is scheduled to count $19.6 million against the Steelers’ salary cap in 2013. The Steelers would like to push some of the money they owe Roethlisberger onto future years, as they currently have 10 players counting more than $100 million on their cap.

The new deal is not expected to add any additional years to Roethlisberger’s deal, but is instead simply expected to be a restructuring for salary cap purposes.
