Cullen Jenkins meeting with Giants

AP

Being a salary cap cut can be preferable to being a free agent, if only for the jump start on the market.

That’s what’s happening for former Eagles defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins.

According to Derrick Gunn of Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia, Jenkins is meeting with the Giants today.

Jenkins, 32, could step into the void created when the Giants released Chris Canty, who has found a significant market thus far.

While not the star the Eagles signed him to be, Jenkins can be an effective rotation player, and the Giants need to backfill with some of those.

UPDATE 3:45 p.m. ET: Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports the meeting is actually tomorrow, still a nice head start.

  1. As injury prone as Canty was, I would love for the Gmen to snatch up Jenkins!!! He may be a lil long in the tooth but that would be just fine for us. Austin and Joseph can use a professional veteran like Jenkins to learn from. Especially since we don’t know if Shaun Rogers will be of much use this season I would love to see us sign Jenkins.

  2. I thought they would at least kick the tires when I saw him get released last week. No one on our line is expected to play every down except JP, so everyone is a rotational guy. That’s why it would make sense, as long as he is not thinking he is the guy he was in 2010.

NY Dream Team. They want Nhamdi and VY while theyre at it?

No. We actually vet players and don’t throw multimillions at them hoping it will stick.

  4. The NY Ginas can have Nhamdi for half a pack of Newports since they want used trash. Thats a deal.

Oh, like Michael Boley, Rocky Bernard, Shawn Andrews, Keith Rivers, Shaun Rogers, Chris Canty, Martellus Bennett and Antrell Rolle?

    Boley has a ring.
    Bernard has a ring.
    Andrews has a ring.
    Rivers was a solid signing.
Rogers would have been a major contributor if not for the clot.
    Canty has a ring.
Bennett was actually used properly, unlike in Dallas.
    Rolle spearheaded our title run.

    What in your POINT?

  7. I love these types of players. Great lockerroom, character, salary cap casualties looking for one last chance at the ring. Just like when we snagged Sam Madison in 07′. I bet Cullen could do wonders for Joseph and light a bit of a fire under Tuck and the rest of the defense.

  8. “What in my POINT” is you actin like the Giants dont sign free agents like everyone else.

  9. I said “VET”, as in making thorough analysis, instead of signing a bunch of names willy nilly like the Eagles did. If you are going to try and “check” me, at least understand what the hell you’re even trying to say to begin with.

  10. Havin a need at CB and DT then signing the best available corner a solid DT is not “willy nilly” as old people say.
