Steelers claim John Parker Wilson off waivers

AP

The Steelers started the day with one quarterback under contract.

They’ll end it with two. The NFL has announced that the Steelers have been awarded quarterback John Parker Wilson off of waivers from the Jaguars. The Steelers were the only team to put in a claim for Wilson’s services.

Wilson spent a couple of days on the Jaguars’ active roster last season, but the majority of his year was spent on the practice squad. That was also the case in the previous three seasons when Wilson was a member of the Falcons.

Seeing as how Wilson has never played in a regular season game, it’s a good bet that the Steelers are just taking advantage of the roster spot to take a look at a quarterback who might be an arm for them to use during offseason work. Wilson might last with the team until camp or he might be bounced from the roster long before the start of summer.

Either way, he’ll be able to tell his grandkids that he once backed up Ben Roethlisberger. Charlie Batch could tell him how rewarding it is to do that.

Starting to be a ravenator scoobie. My highlight was the ravens announcing a collection was underway to build a statue for slash…but hey differant strokes for differant folks.

  3. Being the Steelers have hoisted 6 lombardis already…. I would have to say Batch beating the Ravens and Leftwich coming within a field goal of winning was more impressive for me this year. The Ravens did win but it just shows me the steelers had the talent to win it too. A few plays made here and there (along with injuries) always seems to decide it.

  4. ravenator= Closet Steelers fan. Without a question of a doubt. Commenting on Steelers articles to a dude that won’t make it past the 1st day of training camp is beyond obsession. The Steelers looked PUTRID this year with starters and backups dropping like flys all season and still getting to .500. It was Baltimore’s year. They were 2-3 flukey plays away from being 8-8 themselves so don’t be all too surprised when order of restored in the NFL with the Steelers back to their dominating selves in ’13 and under the radar.

  5. I don’t do “What ifs” but if Ben dosent get hurt against KC we not having this or any other 8-8 talk the Steelers make the playoffs & Win the North.. 2012 is a afterthought..Superbowl and all

  6. not the one who brought it up nofool. and way to stick to your guns about not discussing ray. guess when you have nothing else to talk about….keep chasing ravenator around and see ya around

  7. The dude is 6’2″ tall, and owns nearly every Alabama passing record. You people are fools if you think he can’t win a couple games in relief if the Steelers revive their o-line and running game and keep their top-ranked defense.

Which is more impressive? Hmmm…Steelers fans wouldn’t know what it’s like to have their team hoist a SB Trophy

  9. They need to just resign Hoyer if available..Being Ben’s backup you guaranteed atleast 2-3 starts a year (knock on wood) whoever it is needs to be ready. College numbers rarely translate
    .but who knows

  10. Can the guy survive a single game without injury? If so then he’s as good as or better than all our other current options at backup! haha

Seriously I hope the Steelers front office brings in a younger (as in, less than 25) QB to play second string, and let Batch remain the QB coach (ahem!) I mean 3rd stringer.

That worked fine, until Lord Byron got all brittle on us. We could surely use a younger backup, even if it is only for the durability.

This also would issue an implicit vote of confidence that the Steelers were putting a major focus on the running game; as a young backup won’t win much games without one.

Hey Mom and Dad, can we keep him?

  11. of course steeler fans know what its like to hoist a lombardi. and thats the point. stop acting like winning a regular season game in a season where you didnt make the playoffs is a big deal. its either rings matter or regular season wins matter. cant have both.

Pot meet kettle…scoobie you are now becoming such a hypocrite… What’s with raven fans becoming so eager to twist their stories now they have been alive to watch their team win a SB ? Pathetic.

  13. i wasnt even talking to you sir. my question was for someone else. and how about all the steeler fans who werent even born yet hold on to things that happen in the 70s. now go find a ravenator post to comment on. talk to you later

  14. This move reeks of desperation. Good luck with your shaky QB situation and pushing all those cap numbers into the future. You’ll have to pay that money one day, and I like the rest of the NFL, can’t wait for that day.

  15. Scoobie s you missed the point before the SB win you were bragging about four straight years in the playoffs blah blah blah…now you saying some one else can’t blah blah blah ….Raven way is right and everyone else is wrong…raven fan base fast becoming the most hated fans …let me guess your reply will start with waaaaaaaaa…

For someone who asked yesterday of his dog”why are you and I talking about the steelers”. You sure are obsessed ….I can’t wait for your frontal lobotomy….remember Tom Waitts said ” better to have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy. Better still you need a two fer.

  17. I don’t remember John Parker Wilson with the Crimson Tide but he had some pretty decent numbers as a three year starter including 12-0 his senior season. He lost in the SEC Champ game to Tim Tebow then won the Sugar Bowl to end up 13-1. He also won a couple state titles in HS in the 6A Alabama scholastic league. If nothing else, the guy is a winner. He has never appeared in an NFL game but he stuck around a few years for a reason. Let’s see how he does.

  18. coming from the biggest trash talker there is your words mean nothing. i love how when someone disagrees with you all you do is insult them personally. you insult the fans and the city of baltimore yet you preszent yourself as some type of moral compass who speaks for everyone. and you constantly talk down to others as you brag about your 6 rings and no one else matters. you are as big of a whiner there is and im done with you
