Cullen Jenkins to visit Seahawks, 49ers

Two of the top teams in the NFC will look into whether Cullen Jenkins can beef up their defensive line.

Jenkins, who was released by the Eagles on Monday, has meetings lined up with the Seahawks on Monday and the 49ers on Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

Jenkins has already paid a visit to the Giants and is reportedly also interested in a return to the Packers.

The 32-year-old Jenkins started all 16 games in each of the last two seasons for the Eagles.

  1. 49er have like two dollars in cap space. They have to worry about losing their All-Pro S. Seahawks 16-20 million in cap space Jenkings will be a small upgrade over Branch if we let him walk.

  2. Thanks for your time as an Eagle, Cullen. One of the few in that locker room who was a leader and gave it everything. Wish you success to whichever one of these teams you go to (or any other), except when you’re playing the Eagles of course!

  3. If this guy does play for the NINERS…. He better show up and ball.. We aren’tessing around no more… We want that 6th ring no b.s. so if you come Jenkins you better be ready to play your a** off and get that trophy

  4. Cullen wants to win a championship so his best shot will be to sign with Seattle. They have the best QB in the NFC, the best defense, best coach.
Seattle is clearly the cream of the NFC West and will dominate over the next decade while Harbaugh whines and cries

  5. There will be NO 6th ring for the Niners as long as the Ravens are around…if it wasn’t for the blackout the score would have been 58 to 6.

And mark my words….the run option or pistol offense is a shortlived gimmick, just like the wildcat was, and Kaepernick will end up just like Michael Vick and RGIII with a busted leg or about 10 concussions.

  6. As a Niners fan I’m supposed to hate Seattle and I do. They have a great defense, really good qb and have the swagger. Its their fans that make them hated. Seattle fans act like they’ve been relevant and have super bowl rings. I used to think Pittsburgh fans were the worst but they are at least consistent for the most part and have the rings. Seattle is now the worst with Washington a close second. I understand loyalty to your team and a lot of Niners fans are terrible too, but Seattle fans are just sad. On that note, Go Niners!

  7. If your quarterback has a limited skill set and your team does not have the option of running the read option then it is obviously a short lived gimmick. The teams that run it best are the teams that incorporate it into their regular sets with the best example being San Francisco.

Cullen Jenkins will provide Seattle or San Francisco the additional depth on the defensive line that both teams need. This rivalry is going to be fun for both teams over the next decade so sit back and enjoy it.

  8. @Iknoweverything

To make such a bold statement about having the best QB I the NFC is ridiculous when you have Rodgers, Brees, Stafford, Eli. Three out four have won SuperBowls. I always give respect when it’s due so let’s see the body of work on Russell Wilson and Kaepernick before we crown him KING of NFC or NFL.

To say you have the best coach is absurd when Pete Carrol has beaten Harbaugh ONCE in his life 1-0 at Stanford and 3-1 in the NFL(2-0 in 2011 and 1-1 last season.

Best defense, we can go back and forth. You have up 24pts to ATL in 1st half / Niners gave up 17 and the whole season stats are close.

So, what I have written or all facts . I beg to differ your claim

    @themackstrong

Please do your research before you make such an ignorant statement about the Niners having 2 dollars in cap room. They actually are sitting pretty good after these cuts are made. They are currently 1.1 million under the cap add in Alex smith off the books at 8.5 and that’s 9.6 million. The below cuts will be made / restructured

    – Akers 3.5
    – Haralson 2.7
    – Goodwin 5.7
    – restructure Justin Smith 9 million salary save 3 or 4 million

Add just those three(16 million) plus the 9.6 as mentioned above and the Niners are 25.6 under the cap. I think they are in food shape you ask me . Add the 15 draft picks and you are good.

Let’s see the Seahawks are 17 million under cap with the following people needing extension
Sherman making 555,000 will command 10 million or more
Browner making 554,000 will command 7 million or more
Earl Thomas 3.5 million will command 7 million or more
Kam Chancellor 555,000 will command 6 million or more

That’s only 4 players that will cost 30 million . The tax man will be coming soon.Your thoughts.

  9. Green Bay, get Jenkins and Johnny Jolly back!!!

Your D-Line has been worsening since those two left in their respective years!!!

  10. Wait to the guy who said the 9ers have “2 dollars of cap space” is forgetting A: Cuts can happen, B: Once completed the Alex Smith trade clears 9.5 mil of cap space. They could easily agree to a deal and have him officially sign it the day the trade goes through.

Seattle has more $ right now but SF is possibly the best starting opportunity as of right now.

  11. Sorry, I just don’t see Seattle making that big of an offer to a 32 year old.

Thing about young players is, they can get better. Old players only get older. Marcus Trufant and Leroy Hill are both over 30 and both are on their way out the door. I seriously doubt Seattle will make the best offer to Jenkins, simply because they are a huge believer in getting younger guys and coaching them up. So far, when Schneider/Carroll have gone after free agents, they have been getting guys who are 25-26 years old when they sign, not in their 30s. Think Rice, Branch, and Miller.

I find “Ninerhatersgetready”‘s comments to be hilarious. Oh no, Seattle has young talent to resign, what an enormous problem that is….as if your own QB won’t be looking for $20 million a year once next season is over and he is free to renegotiate, or Crabtree – who already has held out once in his career for more money – won’t be looking to take your franchise to the cleaners when it’s time for him to renegotiate.

  12. To the pseudo- GM most 49er fans have no sense. You’re all pulling for Jenkings when D-line was a strength of your team and secondary a huge weakness. Lose Gholston to sign a lineman would be great for every other team in NFC West because that leaves Whitner/Spillman letting Rogers and Culliver to keep getting exposed. TE Walker is going to be shown the door. Seattle has years before cap space becomes an issue and the execs since PC/JS era have bee top notch. 49ers face it- u missed your chance laying an egg in Super Bowl this year. Seahawks or Rams will be fighting for the division. Check the stats on Superbowl loser of the last 30 years.

  13. The 49ers will get him? I’ve seen 49er fans say they are gonna get Revis, Mike Wallace, and now Jenkins. Is there anyone you aren’t getting? Too bad you only have like 2 million in cap space.

  14. @trollmaster20

Don’t know what is so hilarious about my comments when they are all true facts not assumptions. Crabtree is already making 5.6 million against the cap with his contract up in 2015. Trust me , Trent Baalke will not overpay for ANYONE.
As far as Kap wanting 20 million is hilarious. Yours comments are made with no thought. Kap falls under the new CBA and his contract can’t be redone until he has accrued 3 seasons which will be after this year. If you are Seattle fan what about Russell Wilson when he comes up for his contract in two years . What do you think he will command. So I have given you facts , tell me what is so hilarious about that?

  15. @ninerhatersgetready4ring6

True!!! Seattle fans are talking way to much.. Really should look at the facts of life!! You wish you had a team like ours past, future, and PRESENT!

  16. Pass Rushers want to come to Seattle. They have the home field advantage that SF can only wish they had.

Crowd noise allowing them to jump that snap, it’s no contest. If the money offered is similiar between the two teams then he’d be silly not to sign with Seattle.

  17. Good fodder for all the SF/SEA/Balt/Pitt/ETC… fans. One thing I notice is that most of the activity is being undertaken by all the better teams.

  18. This niner fan really put his gm hat on for this one.HE’S GOT FACTS! here are the real facts: we are so similar (seattle and SF) that its eerie.the biggest difference is that we have a younger team. Yes, that means we have to pay some dudes pretty soon. All teams gotta pay dudes, its the dudes your paying that create the gap.i would much rather be the seahawks front office than the niners. Your heart and soul on defense is gonna retire real soon and it all tricks down from there. Seattles locker room has way more chemistry and camaraderie, and that is what will keep them on top of the division for the next decade. You have no idea of knowing what guys are gonna be paid, our if they are gonna restructure deals, so don’t pretend like you know the real skinny about nfl contracts because you don’t. These are facts. Comments?

  19. Fact NINERS 5 Super Bowls !! Fact baby seahawks 0… We just lost one… Ok, but you have also lost one but NEVER WON.. So catch up and atleast win the division before you run your mouths

  20. I was sorry the Pack let him go. However, he hasn’t exactly lit it up since then either and he got da mooney.

He is strutin his stuff thinking he is still good. More a backup player now. Otherwise why would you let him go. Great players aren’t released twice mr jenkins.

yawn… trash talking from a fan of one of the worst teams in nfl history.
come to Santa Clara if you want to look at some trophies.

  22. Yo ravenmuscle…if it wasnt for the refs swallowing the whistle ALL DAMN DAY, the ravens wouldnt have won the chip. Im sick of u clowns saying the lights saved us. We were down in ATL & came w/o the lights going off, so whats the difference? Kaepernick isnt just a runner, he can beat u with his arm too….just ask tom brady!!!

  23. All these posts are comical. I’m a hawks fan, been so since they were losing. I don’t hate on the 9ers, I respect them, they’re a great football team with rich history. Unfortunately the seahawks haven’t had the same success over the years. However, I am so excited that the NFC west is relevant. I love this rivalry the Seahawks and 9ers have developed and it should be a good one for years. Both really physical hard hitting football teams w/ young dynamic qbs and a good rushing attack. I went to both hawks vs 9ers games last year and they were both so intense. Looking forward for more to come. Can’t be more excited for the future of this organization. Good luck 9ers, we’re coming for you!
    GO HAWKS!!!!

  24. Anybody notice how the 9ers fans comment has absolutely nothing to do with the situation currently? Ya, I realize the hawks have never won a super bowl. Duh……thats pretty astute of you to bring up that little known fact. as far as running my mouth about it, why wouldn’t I be passionate about my team? I have been all these years already. I’m not gonna quit now that they have the best team in the division, maybe even the nfl. but dudes, c’ mon, you can’t keep relying on the same tired comeback all the time. 5 super bowls is great, but we are talking about two totally different teams. I loved the niners with montana and young and rice, etc. , but this years team is light years away from being that elite. So how is that a valid point? easy……..its not, it’s a failure. So, you keep living In the past, and im gonna be here in the present running my mouth, as the seahawks steady run the nfc, year after year.

    Win the division? Ha!

I love how Whiner fans have come out of their holes the past couple years. Notice I said couple, as in TWO. Your franchise hasn’t been relevant since the 2002 realignment. Since then the Seahawks have won the NFC West 5 times and made 13 playoff appearances including a Super Bowl berth.

The last time the 9ers won a title Toy Story was the #1 box office smash, pagers were the big fad, O.J. Simpson was on trial and people were dancing across the country to the Macarena! I respect the 5 rings and the storied franchise, but it’s ancient history!

better to have 5 “ancient” trophies than being a perennial loser like Seattle. the only time seacraps were relevant was when a Walsh protege was in charge.

  27. Cullen Jenkins and Justin Smith would’ve made an awesome Interior pass rush combo back in 09 or 2010 …

Not sure how much either has left in the tank.

  28. Miners fans, what do past Super Bowl victories have to do with anything? How many players, coaches, or front office people were around for the last Super Bowl victory? I’ll help you, none.

  29. Lol. Someone said that the Seahawks work make the playoffs. Lol. The Hawks will own that NFC West. The 49ers don’t substitute on defense much and that defense is starting to wear down. It will show even more next year. The Hawks will be in the Super Bowl this coming season.

  30. How sad to read all the comments by the 49er fans – we have 5 rings, SEA has none.

It’s been 18 YEARS since you blowhards won the big dance. But hey, like U2 said: You glorify the past when the future dries up.
