Linta: Flacco will be pleased with deal long term

As PFT’s Mike Florio noted earlier on Saturday, the six-year agreement Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has struck with the club could end up being an advantage for Baltimore, considering the compensation for highly regarded starting quarterbacks.

Flacco’s agent, Joe Linta, is confident the deal will hold up over time.

“It was reflective of the past, the present and what the expectation is going forward,” Linta told Jarrett Bell of USA Today in a story published Saturday. “I don’t want him to be in a situation three or four years from now thinking, ‘I’m underpaid.’ ”

Should Flacco feel underpaid in a few years, the Ravens would be in both a challenging and enviable spot. Ideally, player and team are happy with a contract; disappointment with compensation just isn’t a healthy situation. Certainly the Ravens would have to be sensitive to such an issue.

However, if Flacco believes he’s outperformed this deal in a few years, one or a couple of things may have happened. For starters, it likely means Flacco is playing quite well. And it could also mean that the pay for starting quarterbacks has continued to skyrocket.
