Martellus Bennett has one season as the Giants’ starting tight end under his belt. It’s still possible that he’ll get another.

The New York Daily News reports that the Giants are making a late push to re-sign Bennett before he becomes an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday afternoon. Bennett’s agent confirmed that he’s talking to the Giants but declined to say whether any other teams have reached out.

I am and will continue communicating with the Giants,” Bennett’s agent, Kennard McGuire, wrote in an email to the Daily News on Saturday. “Martellus is still in New York, and we are taking it one day at a time.”

The Giants have made clear that they want to keep Bennett, but it’s not clear whether they’re going to come up with the kind of money it will take to get a deal done before Tuesday.

Bennett is the No. 21 player in our list of the NFL’s top free agents.
