Cardinals close to landing Cribbs and Alexander

The Cardinals still have quarterback problems, but they’re working on fixing their special teams.

According to Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com, the Cards are close to landing free agents Lorenzo Alexander and Josh Cribbs.

Cribbs has never found a role as a regular on offense with the Browns, but he’s an All-Decade return man.

Alexander is a versatile linebacker who made the Pro Bowl for his special teams work last year, but couldn’t get a deal done with the Redskins because of their tight cap situation. He’s also drawn interest from the Steelers and 49ers, but it leaning towards Arizona.

  1. Lorenzo Alexander is great and I hate that he’s leaving Washington…. He truly is a fantastic player

  2. Agree with robertocfg; maybe just add a backup punter in the draft and the Cards can probably just plan the parade today.

  3. Michael Bidwill’s lone question left to answer: red jerseys or white for the parade?

  4. Alexander would be a nice ST player to have. But I would pass on Cribbs and his $2 mil/yr rumored asking price. The cards could have kept a more valuable La’Rod Stephens-Howlings at that price.

  5. Lorenzo is a Redskin fan favorite and a huge contributor all across the board. The guy is has done EVERYTHING the Redskins organization has asked of him, having played 4 different positions over the years. Redskins nation will absolutely be at a loss…

  6. Doesnt matter what the Cards do in FA this team will NEVER win a Super Bowl!!! Their fans are weak and bandwagon and I live in AZ.

  7. Oh well it’s disappointing to lose Lorenzo Alexander but guys like him are a dime a dozen can be found in every draft.

  8. No disrespect to the Cardinals but San Fran, Seattle, and the Rams will be hard for them to leapfrog so Cribbs would be going for the money, not the opportunity.

One of the dumber things this site has ever seen. Great special-teams players can be found in every draft, but Lolo is way beyond that. If there was a Specia Teams Hall of Fame, he would be a shoo-in candidate. Every draft delivers exceptional athletes, but there is only one athlete in the league right now who could conceivably start at any position on a football team besides Kicker, punter, QB and DB.

That’s not to say Alexander would be a solid starter at every/any position: he wasn’t even that great of an MLB; just that he is probably the best all-around athlete the NFL has seen in a long-time; and players of his all around ability, special-teams prowess and locker room leadership come around once in a generation.

  10. HUGE loss for the skins. We kept Santana yesterday, and I was hoping we would get news that LoAx would be signed too. Oh well, maybe he can come back in a few years after making some bank. Skins are really getting the shaft this year with the totally unfair cap penalty. This loss to our team never should have happened. Danny would have paid LoAx for sure. God speed Lorenzo.

  11. Why doesn’t Snyder file suit against the league? Talk about getting screwed by the league with the unfair cap hit
