The first draft pick of the Mike Smith-Thomas Dimitroff-Rich McKay era in Atlanta was quarterback Matt Ryan, the third overall selection in the 2008 draft.
The second was left tackle Sam Baker.
Ryan is a franchise cornerstone who figures to be in Atlanta for a long, long time, and Baker isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, it appears. Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com reported Tuesday night that the Falcons have re-signed Baker, PFT’s 46th-ranked free agent.
Per Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com, Baker inked a six-year contract.
Baker started all 16 games for the Falcons in 2012.
