Jerraud Powers scheduled to visit Cardinals and Chargers

AP

We’ve been aware of the Chargers’ interest in cornerback Jerraud Powers, but their General Manager Tom Telesco isn’t the only Colts alum with Powers on his radar screen.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians was the head man in Indy for most of the 2012 season and he must have liked what he saw from Powers because Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports that Powers will be visiting the Cardinals before making his way to San Diego to meet with the Chargers. As with any scheduled meeting in free agency, the Chargers will have to wait to see if Powers is still a free agent when his trip to the desert comes to an end.

The Chargers appear set to lose both Quentin Jammer and Antoine Cason, which might leave them a bit more needy at cornerback than the Cardinals. Arizona re-signed was briefly reported to have re-signed Greg Toler before free agency began, but that proved to be incorrect. They have Patrick Peterson there as well, and there’s still a place for Powers, PFT‘s 95th-ranked free agent, now that defenses need at least three strong corners to battle passing offenses.

San Diego is also reportedly interested in Derek Cox of the Jaguars in their search for help on the corners.

  1. The Cardinals have not re-signed free agent CB Greg Toler.

    Unless this is breaking news?

JOSH ALPER: You’re right, my mistake. Was a report they had, but proved incorrect. Have updated accordingly.

  2. Correct. The Cardinals have not re-signed Toler. That was S Rashad Johnson. Toler is free to sign wherever he wishes.

  3. With Toler now in a Colts uniform, it would be fitting if the Cards signed Powers.

    For the right price…

    Buyers market on DB(s).
