It’s no longer a matter of if but when.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets will trade cornerback Darrelle Revis “in the coming days at the right price.”
Per Mehta, owner Woody Johnson has no intention of signing Revis to a long-term extension. Thus, the options are to trade him or to see him walk away next year to a team like the Patriots, Giants, Dolphins, or Bills.
With the situation becoming a larger distraction on a daily basis, the sooner the move happens, the better.
It could happen as soon as today. As we reported last night, there’s one “good” offer on the table. That offer could go away if the team making it signs another cornerback once the market opens.
The Jets don’t know what Revis will want on a long-term deal, since there have been no talks at all regarding an extension. Johnson, whether because he assumes the number will be high or because he doesn’t want to go through the headache of negotiating once again with the Revis camp, apparently doesn’t care.The task remains daunting for all involved. From working out a new contract to working out a trade to worrying about Revis being happy with his contract when he gets back to 100 percent to worrying about whether Revis will even get back to 100 percent, there are a lot of moving parts.Once the other available corners start moving, the Revis gears could grind to a halt.
