Terrance Knighton, Broncos “close” to deal

AP

Free agent defensive tackle Terrance Knighton is nearing a deal with the Broncos, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported early Wednesday morning. Knighton is No. 59 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100.

According to Schefter, Knighton wants to work again with Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, who was Jacksonville’s head coach for the bulk of the 6-foot-3, 330-pound tackle’s first three seasons with the Jaguars.

The 26-year-old Knighton played all 16 games in 2012 for Jacksonville, but he made just four starts. He recorded 32 tackles and two sacks.

  1. Knighton is a good guy who burst out of the gate with a couple of good seasons, then was derailed by the eye injury in breaking up a bar fight last offseason.
He has a propensity to gain too much weight and wasn’t effective last year (nobody was under Mike Mularkey) following the injury.

  2. Resigned Kevin Vickerson, looking to pick up Terrance Knighton…

Tells you exactly what the Broncos are looking for on D-line.

    Big dudes. Mass. No finesse.

Makes sense when you’ve got Linebackers like Von Miller and Wesley Woodyard. They want the minimum weight on Dline to be 300 lbs, to prevent double teams on Miller.

  3. Goodbye Pot Roast. Sorry Gene screwed you up last season by having you drop weight. Get that beautiful big booty back and be the run stuffer you were in years past.

  4. Broncos are on the ball, they’re getting the right players to fit their schemes. I hope dumervil be part of this defense that’s getting beefed up with bargain FA. All they need now is a CB and WR and you have a broncos team that could pick the best players available in the draft with what picks they have.
