Leon Washington, the running back/return man who lost his job in Seattle in the wake of the Seahawks’ trade for Percy Harvin, is drawing interest in Tampa Bay.

In fact, Washington told Ross Tucker on Sirius XM NFL Radio that the Bucs tried to trade for him, but the Seahawks granted him his release instead. Washington was due a $1 million roster bonus, so the Bucs may have only wanted to make a trade if he had been willing to take a pay cut.

But the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Bucs are still interested and have been in touch with Washington’s representatives.

Washington could provide a huge upgrade to Tampa Bay on kickoff and punt returns, where they struggled in 2012. He would also be interested in playing in his home state of Florida. Washington signing with the Bucs would make a lot of sense.
