Giants sign Brandon Myers

AP

Four days after losing tight end Martellus Bennett, the Giants have signed his replacement: Brandon Myers.

Myers, a tight end who has played his entire four-year career with the Raiders, has signed with the Giants, according to Mike Garafolo of USA Today.

In 2012 Myers quietly had a strong season for the Raiders, starting all 16 games and having career highs in catches (79), yards (806) and touchdowns (four).

The 6-foot-3, 256-pound Myers was viewed as the Giants’ first choice to replace Bennett. Now they’ve got their man.

  1. Flourished last season in Knapp’s TE heavy offense (if you can even call it an offense).

Not very athletic but the dude can catch everything. Best of luck Myers!

  2. Great signing for New York, I was hoping Tampa would take a look at him, or even a team like Buffalo, but the Bills apparently decided to wrap up their free agent signings with Manny Lawson.

  3. Hate to see him go, but the Raiders are in cap hell, AND have a TON of other holes (DE, S, CB, DT, WR, RB, etc) to fill.

Besides let’s face it…the TE position rarely makes or breaks a team.

Raiders survived when Zach Miller left for Seattle.

Raiders survived when Kevin Boss left for the Chiefs.

Raiders can use Gordon and/or Ausberry (already on the roster) or draft a late round TE (like then did with Myers in the first place).

At least he is going into a great organization with a great QB (which the Raiders will get to soon with Reggie just trying to survive the next couple of years till he can get the “out of wack” contracts gone)…NATION!

  4. Good thing G men can throw the ball, Myers is no blocking TE. Good luck Myers

  5. McKenzie has me worried a little. The players being lost on D (Bryant, Wheeler, Huff, Shaughnessy, and even Seymour) those guys were all above average or better. Now losing players on offensive side also. I hope that Ausberry is given the TE job now at least.

  6. “I heard that if the Giants hadn’t locked up TE Brandon Myers tonight he was pondering a trip to DC to meet with the Redskins.” – Ralph V.

Giants stealing from the poor and feeding the rich.

  7. Standard Giants off-season. Don’t sign the big money, cap-eating free agents. Wait for the 2nd tier (but still quality) players to sign for the right price. Like the moves they made so far. Now to just get the “Cruz situation” under control.

  8. The Giants currently have three former Raiders drafted by the late Al Davis on their roster: Louis Murphy, Stevie Brown and Brandon Myers.

Kevin Boothe is the fourth, but he’s still an URFA.

  9. Giants are in desperation mode. Theyre signing ex raiders? He will infect that team. Which is good. Because Myers cant beat the Philly 3-4. Chip has collected and built an 11 headed defensive monster that will hold teams under 10 ppg. No more super bowls division titles playoff games or even mid season wins. The Kelly era has begun. World domination tour 2013. We will shock the world! And theres simply nothing anyone can do about it.

  10. As team like cleveland and miami overpay for “stars” the gmen continue to add small pieces for next to nothing. 79 receptions and 800+ yards is far superior to bennett – murphy will be a nice deep threat again cheap – connor is a nice run stopper and will also come cheaply – cruz drawing little to no interest anywhere – the gmen get the cap.

  11. With a replacement for hixon found – the burner murphy, and one for bennett – myers his 79 recs and 800 + yards – you can bet the gmen focus on d in the draft and perhaps an o lineman or two.

  12. Dudes going to put up monster #s. If he put up great stats with Palmer then he potentially has the skills to be a star with Eli. Eli makes any TE looks good. Boss, Ballard, and most recently Bennett. Lets hope Mike Pope can fix his run blocking with is descent at best.

  13. good move Reg –whatever you do, by all means dont keep any of the few quality players that the organization did somehow manage to develop —I havent checked the actual stats but this has to be the worst decade ever by an NFL team –and no end in sight.

  14. Great pickup…Better than Marty B…… Mr. Reeses’ expertise…Giants org is a class act !

  15. Hopefully he works out better for the giants than kevin boss did for the raiders!! Good luck myers! David ausberry or richard gordan should be able to step up in their 3rd year…hopefully! Go Raiders!!!

  16. With Eli throwing to him and Mike Pope coaching him, Myers will have a much better season than Martellus Bennett who walked away from the best situation he’ll ever have.
Players should realize that it’s the team and the coaching that make their careers and stop chasing the last buck.

Now there’s a recipe for success. Let’s replace our quality players with guys from the Raiders. hahaha

In order to do that you must first have QUALITY players!!! There should be a rule that until your franchise wins 1 just 1 super bowl keep your mouth shut.

Well, looks like “logicalvoicesays” had room in mom’s basement for one more troll. Are you guys sharing the same PC, or did mom buy you your very own, dave?

  19. They’d already have a TE if Belichick didn’t snatch Ballard last year.

    Bwahahaha!

  20. Reggie McKenzie, you should have just cut Carson Palmer.

He has nothing left for an avid passing game and had too much money on the books for you to re-sign Brandon Myers.

Raider fans, get ready for another bad season.

  21. I love these Raider fans who say…lost this guy, they survived…lost this guy, they survived…survive what ? Last in the AFC west ?
ya gotta be kiddin !! The Black Hole is just that a Black Hole !! Reggie M sucks !!

  22. I thought Myers was pretty solid last season, IMO solid replacement for Bennett looking forward for this season to start and seeing Giants and my cowboys going at it, just hope Dallas does something this offseason to help out our OL, S and pass rush anyways solid pick up NY

  23. Good pick up for Giants. Will be missed in Oak Town. Hopefully Raider Nation will get compensated with addional picks with all the free agent losses to let Reggie draft some young talent. Good luck Brandon in your new NFL chapter.

  24. In Jerry Reese we trust.

Solid pickup and I have a feeling when the contract numbers are released we will see that it was at a deep discount compared to what Bennett got.

  25. The first post nailed it, he’s not athletic, but he gets open and he has great hands.

    All the best to him.

  26. Giants are up against the cap pretty hard. This was one of two signings I hoped they would make, Rey Maualuga was the other one that now will not happen (Dan Connor). Since he played for OAK the only reason I even know who Meyers is was through seeing fantasy stats. Wish he got a three year deal, but Adrien Robinson must still be a year away. Draft a blocking TE somewhere mid draft and Reese pulled off a nice off-season. In Reese we trust.

  27. to flavordave: Ya know its kinda hard to know what the eagles will do? Remember the “Dream Team,” didn’t work out too well for the Eagles. I’m a Giants fan and I was actually a little scared when the Eagles were signing all those big names. I was relieved though when Victor Cruz scorched Asomugha the whole first game, though. Oh and another reason it impossible to know what they’ll do is because an unproven college coach is always a question mark……….wait until they get on the field before you start talking trash, otherwise, when the Giants beat them you’ll end up having nothing to say, which really wouldn’t be a bad thing.

  28. The Giants had no choice but to let Bennett go but it’s foolish to feel that Myers is a better player. He’s much smaller, can’t block and doesn’t have nearly the same speed. There was a reason he was still available and virtually no other teams were interested.

With that being said he had a career year and catches everything thrown his way. He’s the perfect fit for the Giants who tend to throw far more often then rush the ball.
