Saints not “actively pursuing” Dumervil

Elvis has left the building in Dove Valley.  Now that he’s a free agent, it’s not clear that he’ll ever return.

It’s somewhat clear that he won’t be playing for the Saints.

Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that the Saints aren’t “actively pursuing” Dumveril.  (Of course, the Jets also aren’t “actively shopping” Darrelle Revis.)

The Saints are indeed looking for a pass rusher.  Browns linebacker Paul Kruger told Pro Football Talk this week that the Saints were one of the teams chasing him.

With plenty of pass rushers on the market, it’s only a matter of time before the Saints sign one of them.  Or more.

  1. Perhaps New England to compliment Jones on the other side? I could see it happening after the Broncos got Welker.

  2. He’ll return to Denver… that’s why he’s not being actively pursued.

They’re just finalizing the strategy… and giving his agent time to defend himself.

  3. Im not actively pursuing kim kardashian but if she wants to yoke then i would be more then happy!!!

  4. Hey look at that. A cowboys fan blaming Jerry and not whining about Mara screwing them. Compared to those dope redskins fans.

  5. Dallas and Oakland are two teams that don’t seem to play in this league. I’ve never heard of the people these franchises pursue. I guess it’s good to march to the beat of a different drummer, but if you’re not successful …

  6. To Elvis : from: The 31 other NFL teams. You have been disrespected by the Denver Broncos and John Elway specifically who used the media to try to pressure you to accept a pay cut. Come to our team for for more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$,respect, no faxes, signed….The rest of the NFL.

  7. Im a Cowboys fan also and it sucks to sit here and watch all these teams making improvements to their teams and Cowboys cant do Sh!t from poor signings and over paying for mediocre talent insert any name but one that sticks out to me is Ken Hamlin

  8. Reports are that Dumervil has practically begged the Redskins to sign him for only 2x the veteran minimum because he wants to play for a Super Bowl winner, but the Redskins are not interested.

When you’re the best team in the NFL, you don’t need some mediocre team’s castoffs. HTTR.

  9. @polegojim,

Not so easy for Denver to resign him. They’ve already taken the cap hit for cutting him. If they give him 8 mil a year now it could easily cost them the difference between that salary and the amount they were trying to cut him down by making it impossible to sustain the hit.

I’d be stunned if Belichick hasn’t at least reached out to his agent. Pats have the cap space to pay the 8 mil a year minimum he’ll be looking for. If they can land Dumerville and re-sign Talib the Pats defense will be much tougher this year.

  10. There is no doubt that he will sign with one of the only two teams that have a chance to win the New Jersey Super Bowl…………………These two teams are being assembled to dynasty status.
Absolute geniuses run these teams and are methodically assembling, and outsmarting other GMS, and shrewdly signing the best talent.

These two teams have the smartest and classiest fans in the country, and have the absolute biggest home field advantages.

Elvis will sign with either the SEATTLE SEAHAWKS or KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

  11. The Saints are not pursuing Dumervil, but they were in hot pursuit of Kruger? Doesn’t make sense to me.

Maybe after missing out on Kruger they instantly started pursing other pass rushers and the timing of Dumervil’s release would make it hard to stop negotiating with these other guys. Other than that I can’t see why the Saints woudn’t throw the house at this guy.

He’s naturally a 3-4 LBer, although Denver had him playing as an end. And what better team to go to than one with a great (not good, look up the stats) offense, a great coach, and an overall organization that’ll be playing with a huge chip on its shoulder. All Dumervil needs to do is force 2 punts a game and its a “W”.

Eeeeeeew. Not even double bagged. You don’t know where that’s been.

  13. the football gods says how come we have all of this player movement and not one signed with the redskins IF REDSKINS R GOING TO WIN SUPER BOWLS THE FOOTBALL GODS TOLD ALL OF THE FREE AGENTS TO STAY AWAY FROM THE REDSKINS BAD THING R GOING TO HAPPEN LIKE NOT WINNING THE SUPER BOWL IN THE 21ST CENTURY SIGNED THE FOOTBALL GODS #THEFOOTBALL GODS

  14. “not actively pursuing him” That translates to “he will be signed by the end of the weekend”. Saints missed out on Kruger, will go hard for Dumervil.

  15. I think it’s funny that the only people that think he’s coming back is donkey fans if the donks wanted him he was theirs, they had plenty of time to get a deal worked out. Dummerviille will not be in Denver next yr. some other defensive deprived team out there is going to be willing to pay him what he’s asking.

  16. Who the F is this lunatic who thinks the Redskins have even a snowballs chance in hell of getting to the Super Bowl, much less winning it? They have a damaged QB and so many holes in the roster they look like swiss cheese. They are AT BEST a 3rd place team in their division and about the 9th best in the Conference.
Have a strong pull of reality, my friend. The Racist-skins are going nowhere. There is no logic in your thought process.

    If you really do??

Then I would like to sell ALL you guys ocean front property in Nebraska!!!

  20. Dear Saints,

Re: Elvis Dumervil. Sign the man! Our defense was PATHETIC last season! It’s amazing how they hang on to defensive players too long like Will Smith, Jonathan Vilma and Scott Shanle, but let offensive players go, like Bushrod, Carl Nicks, etc. Go figure!

Cut your losses and sign Elvis. Like the Six Million Dollar Man, “he’s bigger, faster, stronger,” and younger! Pay the man and give us REAL hope for next season because Seattle and San Fran ain’t messin’ around!

  21. Live in denial all you want folks!!!

Sorry you were not the first and if she won’t tell you I just did!!!
