With most of the NFL world on planes (including, incredibly enough, our own Mike Florio) headed to Arizona, there hasn’t been much news on Sunday.
But there is some news. The agent for Saints wide receiver and core special teams player Courtney Roby said that his client has agreed to terms on a contract that will keep him in New Orleans. Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported the news, which does not include any word on terms.
Roby was the team’s special teams captain in 2012 and has been a key member of those units since joining the team in 2008. He’s caught just two passes over that time, but has 43 tackles and returned a blocked punt for a touchdown last season. Roby’s also returned kickoffs but not for a few years and it seems unlikely that the Saints would be looking to put him back into that role.
Roby is the first of the Saints’ unrestricted free agents to re-sign with the team this offseason. With Jonathan Casillas, Chase Daniel and Jermon Bushrod leaving for other teams, there are seven other free agents from the 2012 roster still looking for 2013 work.
