The Cowboys wanted to play in this year’s Hall of Fame game and their wish has been granted.
And they’ll be playing against another team with a tie to 2013 inductee Bill Parcells when they take on the Dolphins on August 4 in Canton, Ohio. The Dolphins made the announcement on Tuesday morning, a couple of hours before tickets go on sale for the game. Parcells coached the Cowboys and spent three years running Miami’ football operations before leaving the team after the 2010 campaign. The Cowboys have an even stronger tie to guard Larry Allen, who spent 12 years with the team and helped them to the Super Bowl XXX title. Wide receiver Cris Carter played the final year of his career with the Dolphins, but is only associated with the team by those with strange memories.
Playing a fifth preseason game will give both teams a chance to take longer looks at some of the players vying to make their team, something that should be of interest to both teams after they fell short of the postseason in 2012.
