Maurice Jones-Drew gets his boot off this week

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has had a walking boot on his left foot since having surgery to repair the injury that ended his 2012 season, but he won’t have to wear it too much longer.

Jones-Drew is set to get the boot taken off later this week, according to Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union. Losing the boot will allow Jones-Drew to start rehabbing the injury, a process that coach Gus Bradley knows that the running back has been itching to get underway.

“I’ve had some conversations with him,” Bradley said. “I know Maurice’s past history is that he leans up as he gets closer to the season. I know this is probably challenging for him to be in the boot and not be doing things physically. But I totally trust him. When he has the time, he’ll be ready to go.”

Jones-Drew is expected to be at the team’s April minicamp, but only as an observer as he won’t be ready to do football activities at that point. The team isn’t concerned that he’ll miss any of training camp, however, and he should be plenty fresh after getting just 86 carries last season.
