2013 PFT mock draft, Version 1

Getty Images

It makes no sense to do mock drafts before free agency starts, even though everyone does.  It makes somewhat less nonsense to do one two weeks into free agency, but things can still change until it’s time for the first pick to be made.

Then again, it arguably makes no sense to do mock drafts at all, since it’s inherently a crapshoot that gives the experts and those who think they are something to do.

It’s even more of a crapshoot in 2013.

But we’ll shoot the crap anyway, since we haven’t done it yet this year and plenty of you have been asking for us to do one.

Probably so that you can complain about how bad it is.

So complain away.

  1. No way Geno Smith goes at 23. He’ll be Top 10. Not based on skill necessarily, but based on QB Panic. If he gets past Arizona some team will trade up to take him.

  2. I just don’t see Detroit passing on Fisher. LT is a need too big to not fill. Multiple times has Schwartz said that it is hard to find 300lb athletic guys.

  3. You’re right about mock drafts being pointless but +1 point for originality…I like it

  4. why would the vikings take a qb when they have ponder and just signed cassell in free agency, and then why would we take a crappy LB instead of a wr. no way

  5. Is this a joke? Pick 23 Vikings Qb Geno Smith? The world is saying he will be a top 10 pick and you have him at 23?

  6. Chiefs would be crazy to go thisnroute. The hairpiece is too tight Florio. maybe switch the first 2

  7. Definitely some “WTF” picks, but predicting WTF picks while admitting that you’re probably completely wrong is a lot better than the predicting WTF picks while claiming to be completely right that most people do.

  8. Did you throw darts at a dartboard while doing this mock? Or maybe you did a process like the NBA to figure out the lottery draft order?

  9. i never thought id say this but i actually give u credit for this florio, it looks like you did this yourself when i assumed it’d basically be a carbon copy of what people who know football are mocking.

  10. Trufant looks much better than dee mil. I hope truant would fall to Pitt. I like Eddie Lacey to Pitt. The steelers always have a franchise RB. Franco, bettis, this could be our next long term man.

  11. Greatest mock draft ever, Florio should have to update this everytime a player is signed, traded, cut, legal issue, or just the good old “drunk Big Ben” stories.

  12. Come on the vikes are not taking a qb. That’s just stupid. And they are not taking that dumbass LB from Notre Dame

The will be taking a wr for sure with one of those two picks.

  13. You really think the vikings would pass on cordarelle Patterson at 23 for QB and then go with manti in the first round?

  14. Was not expecting to read geno smith or manti teo at 23 and 25 my god I hope Rick spielman is smarter than you, although if geno is there at 23 that wouldn’t be a terrible pickup. Ponder still has questions and Cassel is only a fill in at this point

  15. Dion Jordan as the first pick…Matt Barkley going 15 spots before Geno Smith….Dee Millner NOT being the first CB taken….ok I think I made my point. WHAT IS THIS?

  16. It would be great if Geno fell to the Viks at 23, but it ain’t gonna happen, no way. I respect the effort but this mock is extremely flawed, Jordan 1st overall (no), Trufant before Millner (no), Geno falling to the 20’s (someone would trade up before that happens).

  17. Interesting selections throughout but as a Cardinal fan (yes there are some out here), there is no way we are letting Fisher slide past us if he is still there.

    #Birdgang

  18. I admittedly don’t know enough about most of these prospects to argue much, but I will say that I seriously doubt Alabama’s Milliner will fall to the Jets at 9. He’ll be taken well before then.

  19. You have Trufant in front of Milliner not going to happen but it could. You have the Browns passing on Milliner thats really not going to happen. If he is there I bet its like 95% they take him.

  20. So you’re saying the Saints are gonna get a receiver. Great. Can he cover himself? Rush the passer, maybe? Freakin’ tackle?

  21. Geno Smith with the Minnesota Vikings? Are you crazy, Florio? There is no way they are going to invest another first round pick on a QB when we have one still developing and a backup ready to take over at any time. Also, I doubt the Vikings (or any team) is going to take a chance on Manti Te’o in the first round. He’ll bring a circus atmosphere, which is the last thing Rick Spielman wants.

  22. Dion Jordan #1 No. Steelers Eddie Lacy in rd 1 No way. Lacy might still be on the board in rd 2 with that hamstring.

  23. The Bengals have a Pro Bowl DT in Adkins and another good one in Peko.
They also have a 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick invested in DT last year.

Why on earth would they draft another on in the first round???

  24. You really just went for huh? Threw all the names in a hat and started pulling em’ out gotta respect that I guess.

  25. Oh, I see. It takes our HC going to the NFL for you guys to finally give the Ducks some love. At least we’ve proved the system works to you in the press… until the Eagles lose their first game.

Then Florio will flip-flip for the millionth time with the dramatic flare that only he can provide.

  26. Chiefs do not need a pass rusher, taking one first overall is hard to see. Plus Dee Milliner and Xavier Rhodes will go higher than you have them. And Matt Barkley going that high is insane so that sounds right for the Bills.

  27. This is retarded, why the hell would the Saints draft a WR first round when they still need work on defense????

  28. Eddie Lacy will slip into the second round due to the newly-added helmet rule.

  29. Dion Jordan at 1 is a laugh. He’s got bust written all over him. Tall with no leverage, lacking elite speed, and terrible hand usage equals disaster. I don’t understand why these mocks are so high on him. Someone change my mind please.

  30. Guys he said it was a crapshoot, these things are made for better perspective. If everyone made one that was nearly similar/exactly what the ‘experts’ thought was gonna happen, what fun would that be?

Having said that this would be a crazy draft if it went down like this (crazy unpredictable)

  31. Lolls. People get so mad at other people predicting their team will take anything other than what they perceive as the need, and yet these same people sit around lamenting the fact that their teams ownership never address their team needs…

  32. This might be the worst mock draft i have ever seen… a Muppet baby could come up with something better. Bucs would not get a wr in the first round. how does this jamoke have a job???? #floriosucks

  33. Can’t see Te’o getting past the Bengals. They seem to be in love with the guy according to the Cincy media (Bengals must have missed the national championship game).

  34. Doing a mock draft is one thing, but just picking names at random and writing them down is another. Very few of these show even the slightest hint that any thought whatsoever went into this.

  35. Any and every Vikings fan is looking at this and saying “Whuh??” Come on Florio, you’re tied into MN. You have some explaining this week if you’re on with PA….

  36. Well since all other teams fans are throwin jn their two cents. As fun as tavon austin would be down in Tampa Bay, too many holes on defense. So i respectfully disagree. Oh. I mean rawr rawr ur an idiot how dare u predict the future differently than anybody else. This matters so much.

  37. Did you write the top 50 players names on popsicle sticks, thrown them up in the air….randomly pick them up and plug them in, 1st,….2nd,…..3rd….?

  38. I love the Tavon to the Bucs pick…..it should be the pick they should make if he is available….there will be plenty of corners to choose from also will probably get the revis trade done.

  39. So the Bucs who have Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams at WR draft another WR instead of drafting a DB or DL? Did you forget that we had the worst pass defense in the league last year?? You must be assuming we trade for Revis but even if we do there still needs a corner on the other side of the field.

  40. I would love to hear your reasoning to why you feel this is going to happen. Most mocks provide some kind of an explanation

  41. As an eagles fan i don’t see them taking a DT 4th overall with the signing of issac sopanoa. in a 3-4 why would you draft a nose tackle to come off the bench? that’s a wasted pick, witht hat pick you wanna draft someone you can plug in week 1 as a starter. millner fits that criteria, or dion jordan, or joekel.

and i just noticed barkley before geno??? WOW!

  42. I generally feel complaining about a mock draft is silly, because it is just a guess. This one however, seems intentionally bad. Like trying to drive comments bad. Trufant ahead of Milner? Barkley ahead of Smith? Smith making it out of the top 10. The chiefs not taking an OT(than why do I keep reading your posts about trading Albert?) The Eagles’ pick is horrific, along with just about the entire top 10. But here I am commenting, so touché

  43. Desmond Trufant at #5? No way Detroit is taking him. If they pick a CB at that spot, it will be Milliner. Though they are probably more likely to take an OT, or DE.

  44. Why would the bengals take a DT makes no sense know the depth chart before you go picking players.

  45. If Cordarrelle Patterson is available pick 23, why the hell wouldn’t the Vikings take him? This mock draft sucks.

  46. First there is no chance Luke I doesn’t go number one if KC keeps the pick. Albert will be traded at draft. The Geno thing is stupid and the biggest omission is track. Austin not bei g the first round. This is not nfl circa 1997, he is what teams want. That’s the reason Seattle gave up a 1 st rounder for harvin. I think JR may have done this list

  47. As much as I would like to criticize the MD it probably is no worse then the real one as history shows.

  48. My wife is flabbergasted! Pretty sure she did a more respectable mock draft, despite her drawing names out of a hat!
As a STL fan I am insulted that you don’t have a WR or Safety with either 1st rd pick. Do me a favor and go lock yourself in a closet, light off, and ball your eyes out becuz YOU SUCK!

  49. As a Texans fan, I admit we need a #2 WR but reaching for Deandre Hopkins at 27 is as bad as the 49ers taking A.J. Jenkins in the 1st round last year.
The Texans will trade #27 to Buffalo, Arizona or any other team looking for a quarterback for a high 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th round picks in the 2013 NFL draft.
Josh Boyce will give Houston the same production as Deandre Hopkins will in 2013, 25 receptions, 400 yards and 3 TDs, which is not enough for a #2 WR.
The Texans should sign Randy Moss or Terrell Owens to a 1 year contract to be the #2 WR in 2013.

  50. 5. Lions: CB Desmond Trufant, Washington.

Really?? This looks like Matt Millens Mock Draft! Horrible picks all over!!!!

This is how i think its gonna turn out for the top 5!

    1. Chiefs: OT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M

    2. Jaguars: DT Star Lotulelei, Utah.

    3. Raiders: DT Sharrif Floyd, Florida.

    4. Eagles: CB Dee Milliner, Alabama

    5. Lions: OT Eric Fisher, CMU

  51. Whoever made this is smoking rocks! Worst ever. No way Barkley gets picked before Geno and NO WAY Geno gets past the Jets. There is not one thing right about this mock. Expect MAYBE Floyd going to Oakland. Horrible

  52. I don’t know much about this draft class, and while I don’t know about the most of the teams desires or targets.

You have the Minnesota Vikings doing very Minnesota Viking things in the draft. So I’ll give you some props for that.

  53. The chiefs have 2 pro bowl outside linebackers and they draft another with the first overall pick?!! Why? And with most teams only suiting up 2 qbs these days the vikings are gonna waste a first rounder on geno smith? I don’t see it! I don’t know what to think about the te’o pick other than “please no!”

  54. that makes no freakin sense what so ever why would the Bears draft a best suited 3-4 Linebacker in Jarvis Jones your drunk PFT!! Everyone knows they run a 4-3!!! BEAR DOWN!!!

  55. There’s a line in Glengarry Glen Ross, “Get them to sign on the line which is dotted.” The subtext here is , “Get them to comment on articles by trolling.”

  56. Not the avg run of the mill mock but not as far fetched as most think. You got Austin going to the Bucs and I could live with that. I also like Star who ya got going next.

  57. The Saints isn’t as far off as other Saints fans say it is. The Saints have never drafted on need. They strictly draft the highest on their board when the time comes. If that happens to be a WR then that’s who they take injury and all. That works out anyway because the Saints redshirt all their WR’s any way. Mechem then Toon this last year so why not another one. This is the same team that drafted Deuce Mcallister when they had Rickey Williams and that worked out pretty good.

  58. Florio, you are the best. Way to stir up the pot and bring out all of the whiners. For the Bucs at 13 with all of the top DE’s, DT’s, CB’s and OT’s off the board, Tavon Austin would be a brilliant pick. That’s why it probably doesn’t have a snowballs chance in hell of happening. But thanks for the good thoughts, vibes and common sense.

  59. I like Eddie Lacy as the Steelers pick. It would be interesting to see him and T Richardson go head to head twice a year.
    ======

Nobody cares about Trent Richardson, bud.

  60. The Rams aren’t going to draft Cooper and Fluker in the first round. They already have two Tackles (Long and Saffold) and they are down two receivers after losing Amendola and Gibson.

  61. Consider the source…
Florio picked Colts over Ravens because Ray Lewis was supposedly faking retirement.

Patriots are going to take a QB this year, high in the draft.

  62. This draft looks like you purposely made a bunch of wrong picks to get people talking.

It’s not just the mistaken value ratings (Sheldon Richardson #4? Geno Smith #23?!), or rating the wrong guy higher than the next at a position (Trufant over Milliner, Matt Barkley over Geno Smith), it’s having players taken where they don’t meet the team’s needs at all and aren’t even the best player available (I’m thinking Keenan Allen to New Orleans).

  63. Joekel goes first. Geno goes 8th. Barkley doesn’t get picked in the first round. Jarvis Jones will still be in the top 10. And where’s Demantre Moore???

  64. I am wondering if they made this so bad just to get people come and comment. Fischer won’t last as long as they have him here. Might even go first to the Chiefs.

  65. Jags are the wild card at 2. They will trade down in a heartbeat and jack up everyones mock drafts like they were the Florida Gulf Coast of the NFL.

  66. Zach effeirt to Green Bay would be a terrific fit though. They won’t do it, but it would be a terrific fit. It be like having Rudolph catching passes from Rodgers. That’s an unstoppable duo

  67. Geno to Minnesota? I’m not sure if that is an indictment of the Vikes front office, or a man crush on Smith. Regardless, it would mean missing out on a deep DT field or a high-ceiling WR.

  68. Let me start by saying, I’m a huge Mike Florio fan, But I will say this, this mock is bizzare. I’ve read a million 2013 mocks, most by people less qualified than Florio, and every single one of these picks has a great chance of being wrong. Of course We will beat it up if it’s crazy as what. Its all based on perceived need, there is not one instance of an organization taking the BPA. And there is no way the Vikings draft geno smith at 23. Im 99.9% sure that I have just as good a chance of being drafted 23rd overall. Mind boggling stuff. I know mocks are suppose to be fun, but this is bizzaro planet mock.

  69. Oh well, if you’re somehow right at #21 it just makes the Redskins look even better for the RG3 trade. Let the Rams have D.J. Fluker, Janoris Jenkins, and whatever project they take late in the 1st round next year. We’ll take the ROY superstar franchise QB that comes along once a decade, if that, while over half the NFL teams struggle every offseason to find a QB that can just be good enough to not LOSE games for them. If Bradford fulfills his potential, this should go down as one of the most mutually beneficial trades ever. HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!

  70. Wow the Bengals pick is terrible. Know this if Jarvis Jones, Kenny Vaccrro(which they weren’t in this piece) Xavier Rhodes or Alec Ogletree are available it’s a done deal. If those four players aren’t their it would be wise for them to start trading down and stockpiling later picks because their isn’t much of a talent drop off between rounds 1 and 3. I don’t remember a draft like this one ever. No superstar QBs, WR, or RB’s infact no one jumps out at you as a sure thing. As evidence look no further than a Freshman Heisemen winner and a LB getting second for crying out loud.

  71. I won’t comment on any of the other picks but I would have to say that you hit the nail on the head with the 10th pick…..if he gets that far.

I think that most of the Titans fans out there want Warmack or Jonathan Cooper with our first round pick this year. I don’t see an Offensive Guard with his talent level making it past the Eagles and Jets do to their horrible QB protection, and how important a guard with that aggressiveness is in today’s league. I would say that we probably end up with Cooper and Warmack goes before pick #10.

But I hope you are right Florio.

  72. Is this April Fools. Lions won’t touch a corner in the first round. Lol. Trufant over Lane Fischer and Dee Milliner. LOL. TOO DANG FUNNY.

  73. Dammit, I hope the Packers don’t get Eifert. He’s great and I’m a Bears fan.

  74. I know mock drafts are pointless, because they’re more off than NCAA tourney brackets, but if this played out, I wouldn’t complain. At least you acknowledge that the Titans need a guard.

And I hate to be one of the many critics here, but… Barkley over Smith? C’mon, man!

  75. Looked at the first four picks and switched the page although I give you credit as the Eagles will probably blow their pick by typically reaching for a no body.

  76. Saints take Keenan Allen with Jones and Werner still on the board? No. And Geno Smith at 23 with Barkley at 8? For somebody talking a lot about the ‘smokescreen’ you sure are being smokescreened.

  77. Manti Te’o is drafted in the first round but Arthur Brown, Alec Ogletree and Kevin Minter aren’t? Yeah effin’ right. This mock is Terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible.

  78. The real draft should be wild this year. If you look at mock drafts on all the major sites, the picks are not even close between the experts. I still don’t see how the jags can’t take Geno at 2. If they start Gabbert or Henne this year, they are trying to move to Los Angeles.

  79. Wow…I am not familiar enough with every prospect, or every team’s needs, to completely disparage this mock…So allow me to mock partially:

1.) With the recent signings of DJ Williams and James Anderson, I don’t see the Bears taking a LB at #20. I do, however, hope they find a better option than Williams in the middle, since everything I’ve read on him says he is better on the outside.

2.) While Tavon Austin to the Bucs at #13 is certainly possible – dude is a flat-out beast – most mocks I’ve seen have him going later…Bears should jump on him if he is still on the board when they pick.

3.) Assuming Austin is gone, and the Bears don’t trade down, there are several guys I’d take at 20 over Jones…Fluker, Eifert, Patterson, or Long.

4.) I do not see GB ignoring their defense with their first pick.

5.) Matt Barkley doesn’t go that high, and Geno Smith doesn’t fall that far.

6.) Memo to Phil Emery: If you do choose to take a LB with that first pick, do not under any circumstances pick the circus known as Manti Te’o, unless you want the rest of your defense to mutiny.

7.) Alec Ogletree was a guy I had thought might be worth taking a chance on, until I heard him described as an ‘arrogant moron’ by an NFL scout.
This may be why he will drop out of the 1st. round, as Florio’s mock suggests.

There, I’m done…You may all now mock me, if you wish…Assuming Florio doesn’t delete me again.

  80. If the Giants take Bjoern Werner with Jarvis Jones, D.J. Fluker, Tyler Eifert and Alec Ogletree still on the board I will be PISSED!!!!

  81. Looks to me like this mock draft was designed to generate comments from posters by making picks that fly in the face of fans.

Geno Smith to Minnesota in the 1st round when they have Ponder, Cassel, Webb and McLeod Bethel-Thompson is ridiculous. Then to follow it up with Manti Te’o is the icing on the cake.

  82. LOL if both Matt Barkley and Geno Smith are still available at #7, you can bet everything you own that the Cardinals are taking one of them.

  83. Apparently, nobody here read the part about this being just for fun. Mike doesn’t like premature mock drafts before or during free agency, so this was just a roll of the dice to spark debate. With that being said, this was fun to look at.

  84. Remember that scene in “Rain Man” where the box of toothpicks gets spilled? Florio is Dustin Hoffman. Except not a savant. And the toothpicks are draft-eligible football players. Someone’s gotta pick ’em up. Hey, mock draft. What a job I have.

  85. This is the definition of a MOCK draft! Seriously laughed when I saw Dion at #1 then laughed even harder when I saw the rest of the list. Seriously delusional Mike

  86. It’s actually not that bad..did anyone see,ponder,locker,gabbert,tanninghill.. its different from most mocks, but every population mock is usually wrong. kiper, mayock, mcshay aren’t always right..

  87. I think the niners pick maybe one of maybe 3 picks you get right. With how little they are actually in their base D though I highly doubt it. The league has gone pass happy and they have proven they can bury the run even in nickel. Lot more likely to be Margus Hunt. Oh and Trufant at #5? Lol i think he is underrated and someone should get a steal but not THAT underrated

  88. While I do not pretend to know a lot about other team needs….I do know that Minnesota is looking for a WR, DT, LB, and secondary help.
There is NO way they pick up Smith at QB (he wont make it past pick #10.
I need to know…..did your Mom, or your 3 year old fill out this Mock Draft for you? Next time ask me….I’m sure my 5 year old can do better.
If it wasnt your Mom or 3 Y.O. who filled out this Mock Draft….I want some of what (who ever did fill it out) is smoking.

  89. When I look back at almost all drafts 4 – 5 years later, about 10 first rounders are great, about 10 are OK and about 10 are busts. mike’s mock looks like crap, but what do any of us really know? even the scouts and GMs mess up at least 30% of the time.

  90. does anyone else feel like Florio is just trolling for comments when he posts his mock drafts? How can anyone take this seriously? He has intentionally blown 90% of the picks just so he can get reactions

  91. Raiders will trade out of that pick to supplement the rest of this draft. The trades for Aaron Curry & Carson Palmer almost make it a nessacity to do so.

  92. Andy Reid is as transparent in his love for O lineman as anyone ever has. Unless he gets a sweet deal to move back, he nabs LJ.

  93. you actually get paid for this crap? you really think the packers need a TE in round 1? wait, do you actually watch the NFL? do you even know what NFL stands for?

  94. Football has totally jumped the shark…

Draft guys that make TDs, and draft guys that make people scared to score TDs.

    …..And draft a commissioner too.

  95. Umm Mike, did you know you have Matt Barkley going way before Geno Smith? Are you okay?

  96. This mock was made for the sole purpose of getting as many comments posted as possible…wait a minute…dang! I fell victim to it…

The Vikings couldn’t be happier if the draft played out this way for picks 1-22. That would leave them arguably the highest rated at their positions and two of the most dynamic & explosive players in WR Patterson & LB Ogletree at 23 & 25 (instead of the goofy picks predicted here). Both positions of need. If only it could be.

  97. All this is is an obvious attempt to get people talking and increase traffic on this site by being different or controversial. Just look at all the comments in 6-7 hours. For that….job well done. There is asbolutely no way he actually believes some of this will happen.

  98. In what universe do the Buccaneers pass on Xavier Rhodes if he’s sitting there at #13, especially for a 5’6″ 160 lbs WR?

  99. Even Florio has the right to do these things. They’re fun, they’re fun to read and comment on, and they’re forgotten the day after the draft.

What’s not to like? Lighten up folks.

  100. The only reason I can see Florio putting out a ridiculous mock draft like this is to get a rise out of people… and…it worked!

  101. I can’t see the Steelers taking Lacy with the 17th pick. Its going to be a WR or a playmaker on defense I would think.

  102. I’ll give you 50.00 for every one you get right. You give me a 1.00 for every wrong one? Looks like, I’ll be 32.00 richer on draft day. Lol

  103. Not surprise. Florio is a genius. He knows that this is a pointless exercise since no one is even close to 50% right on there picks. He acknowledges that it “makes no sense to do mock drafts at all” per Florio. But you all bit hook line and sinker. Good mock draft…no. Good site traffic…yes. We bow down to the genius that is Florio. There is a reason a guy turns a weekend obsession into a network gig.

  104. Trufant will be a probowl CB in only a few seasons he is better than millner just wasn’t the popular pick playing on a crappy defense for some time.

His measurables are almost identical to millner and plays man coverage on the Pac 12s best WR, which there are a projected 5 to 7 of them as1st through 3rd round picks this year.

Add the pedigree of having both of his brothers currently in the league and you can somewhat justify that pick. He will be the most prepared by a long shot.

He is a edgy, aggressive, confident, and ultra competitive corner all of which will translate well to the league, but don’t let the hype confuse you, you were just late to the party.

Don’t see it happening but after a couple seasons you will have had it happen In many of your re-drafts.

  105. Any draft that does not include the Pats trading their pick is useless. They always move down and down and then out. Last year excepted.

  106. I can only assume one of a couple things happened while putting this draft together:

1.) Florio only did it due to pressure from his editor since mock drafts have been all over the internet since the Super Bowl and didn’t care about the actual likelihood of any of these picks being accurate,

2.) Florio picked random names from a hat for each pick, or

3.) Florio is playing a joke on all of us, and his real mock draft is coming at a later date.

  107. I get it… It’s not easy to predict the future. But I do have to hand it to you Florio. You know how to get traffic on the site moving.
Barkley to the Bills. Actually it sounds like a wrong pick …but using logic that’s what my Bills usually do is make the wrong pick

Just when I think you couldn’t do anything dumber you do something like this…. And totally redeem yourself!!

  108. To the late March superfan “eye test”, this look absolutely ridiculous. However, ever year we see mock draft after mock draft; we watch all the experts talk about it…then come draft day…everything gets blown up by 5-6 crazy surprises. So don’t be too shocked if Trufant goes before Millinner; and don’t be too shocked if Geno drops (remember A. Rodgers). Mock drafts are like picking the NCAA tourny….it’s a crap shoot…and when all said and done…very little of it made any sense.

  109. BEST MOCK DRAFT EVER!

What that means is it’s also the WORST MOCK DRAFT EVER! because ALL MOCK DRAFTS ARE A FARCE!
People waste hour after hour trying to be “first”. After last years draft I checked back on a dozen or so mock drafts at the popular sites. They were all so wrong it was laughable.
Why do people waste good hours of their precious lives drooling over nonsense?
A mock draft is equivalent to a bar closing time story of another drinking adventure. It is entertaining, totally meaningless, and not remembered in the morning.

  110. packers are picking a TE, jermichael finley is a free-agent after this year ( if the packers retain him this week ). TT looks a year or two ahead when he drafts.

  111. There is no way Geno Smith lasts until #23, and there is no way the Vikings take him there. Stick to the smarmy comments and leave the actual analysis to the pros.

  112. LOL! The Vikings drafting a QB and Manti Te’O?! ROFL!

Rick Speilman would be run out of town for making those two choices.

  113. The only thing I agree with is geno smith going in the later picks. Other then that this could be the worst mock draft I have ever seen. Mike you can do better then that.

  114. Amazingly, when I threw darts blindfolded in the dark I came out with these same picks as well, OK, now let’s try to do a serious draft.

  115. I think safety Vaccaro to Dallas at #18 is pretty likely. It’s a pick that makes sense with the departure of Sensabaugh and the conversion to the Tampa 2 defense.

I do think QB Geno Smith could go off the board earlier than 23.

  116. bengals with a dt? we took 2 last year in the 2nd and 3rd pluse we got geno. no way we take a dt

  117. Can’t see the Vikings using #23 on Geno Smith– Especially with the Colts picking after them– They could get Smith at #25 and allow them to take Patterson at #23.

If the Vikings come out of round 1 with Patterson and either Geno Smith– or trade down for someone wanting Smith– I’d be OK with it.

  118. The Vikes take Geno Smith and Manti Te’o? You need to be fitted for a straight-jacket Florio.

  119. That would be the worst draft in Vikings history, and they had a draft where they took Troy Williamson and Erasmus James in the first round the same year.

  120. I know its early and a crap shoot but that said there some basic tenants of the NFL draft you need to account for when constructing at least a half serious mock.
When is the last time (2) Guards were taken in the 1st round let alone the top 16? Castro was supposed to be the best guard to come out -ever last year and fell to the Steelers at 24. No way 2 guards are taken this early. Especially one with less then ideal physical size.

  121. The Vikings once took a gamble on a guy named Geno. Gino Toretta ring a bell. How did that work out!

  122. I see the vikes taking a receiver befor a QB. LB makes sense, but maybe not Te’o…we’ll see. You describe it as a crapshoot. Very good description. Crapshoot.

  123. Bucs just signed V.Jackson to a huge deal, & are looking to do so w/M.Williams…meanwhile, they have a gaping hole next to G.McCoy…& yet they let Star slip by. Heck, I think Star’s the one reason why they don’t want to trade this year’s #1 for Revis…

  124. Great troll thread to generate more hits on pro football talk. I don’t think you are serious but I do like pro foot ball talk, just not this mocking draft.

  125. First of all, if Patterson was going to be around at pick #23, there is no way in hades the Vikings pass on him. My guess is he doesn’t get past 17-18.

As for Geno Smith, he won’t last until the 20s either. There are too many QB starved teams out there, and the Vikings are not (at this point) one of them (Buffalo, Arizona, Oakland, Cleveland).

  126. April Fools is NEXT Monday, Florio! This is hilarious to see so many comments. Another reason why PFT is one of my favorite websites that I check several times a day. 🙂

  127. I was gonna laugh at who you had the vikings choosing… til I saw a Tight End selected by us in the 1st round….

    Forget that noise – We’ve got 4 tight ends….
We need some Linebackers/Defensive Tackles/Offensive lineman.

  128. Lions are going with Fischer. Need another solid tackle with Backus gone. NO WAY they take Desmond Trufant at No. 5

They are trading back to get him, but NO WAY do they take him at 5.

    They take Fischer at 5.

  129. You are a nut case, the vikings shall draft a DT in the 23rd position and either a CB or ILB in the 25th then take WR 2nd round..

and it won’t be those you picked a QB? ha ha & a soso from Notre…

  130. OK Mike , you got us . this was due for release next Monday, wasn`t it? You know, April 1st!!

  131. A crap shoot would have been more realistic than this mock draft.

Nice introduction, Florio. Clearly trying to soften the criticism you were going to receive after publishing this nonsense.

  132. This is the best mock draft I have ever seen.

It’s tied with every other mock draft anyone has ever done ever (tied for either first or last place depending on your perspective).

Nobody has ever done a mock draft that was worth reading and nobody ever will.

    You’re all nuts.

  133. 7. Cardinals: DE Barkevious Mingo, LSU.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA’

Not a chance in hell the Cards take a DEFENSIVE player first round let alone a DE. As much as I hate to say it, they’re going offensive line or god forbid, Quarterback. But it won’t be Smith or Barkley. Just watch….They are going to get HAMMERED for the pick but i’d bet my life they take Ryan Nassib and make it a REACH

  134. The Vikings Are Not Taking Geno Smith, Hell Be Gone Before They Pick. They Will Draft WR Or CB At One Of The Spots And A LB At The Other. They Will Most Likely Take Rhodes Or Allen With The 25th Pick And A Inside Linebacker At 23.

  135. The Eagles would be wise to draft an OT instead of a DT, but I would rather they draft a DT than reach for a QB.

  136. Since it’s a crap shoot, your guess is about as good as mine. I see what you mean about experts or those that think they are, there’s about 250 plus on this article alone. “X guy on at 12? that’ll never happen.” lol, like they have any clue

  137. The reaction to this mock is a little over the top. There’s some guys who appear to jump as much as 10 spots above expectations, but we don’t know until the draft happens if there will be no surprises. There’s nobody on this list I haven’t seen mocked in the 1st round, though Long would be a bit of a surprise

  138. To take Barkley over E.J. Manuel is questionable but to do so over Geno Smith Is ridiculous! As for the Panthers taking a DL in the first round is a mistake when they are in desperate need of a quality WR. Besides, it is doubtful that Star Latulelei would be available at #14 slot. The most valuable thing that this Mock Draft did was stir up controversy and create a few laughs.

  139. I think the Packers would value Eifert worth a #26 pick, and the Packers would be happy if they got him at that spot..

But in your scenario, Elam, Rhodes, and Carradine are all still available. Any one of those three guys would make a bigger impact.

In this scenario, I think TT would probably take Carradine, then pick up a Safety later.

TT will probably draft a TE, but probably in the 4th round, or later.

  140. you have the Saints taking a WR… they had the number 32 defense in the league… what makes you think WR … who ever wrote this is a joke

  141. I don’t think Geno Smith makes it past Arizona. Not because I think hes the answer but because they are desperate. Theyre paying a ton of money to Larry Fitzgerald and they need to take a chance that someone can get the ball to him. They realize the guys they’ve been trying to use cant make that happen.

Matt Barkley really reminds too many people of Jimmy Clausen and that’s pretty damaging

  142. Just to clarify: You think that even though the Vikings have two QBs competing for the starting role that they’ll be looking to draft a QB in the first round? Not to mention, there’s no way Geno Smith is going to slide out of the top 15.

Also, how can’t you have the Vikings taking a WR? I mean, Cordarrelle Patterson will not be passed up, and especially not Keenan Allen if he’s still on the board.

Plain and simple: Your mock draft is a complete joke. I could find flaws in it for the rest of the day…. Barkley before Smith? Huh.

  143. Vikings taking Smith over the best WR in the draft?? Absolute joke.

A better list could have been compiled by a dizzy blindfolded monkey throwing darts in a pitch black room.

This is as laughable as Mel Kiper’s life.
