The Cowboys don’t have enough salary cap room to sign a free agent, but they do have needs, so they’re going to continue to shop.
According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys are hosting safety Michael Huff today, in addition to the previously reported drop-bys by safety Will Allen and linebacker Justin Durant today.
The only problem is, the Cowboys have roughly $100,000 worth of cap space at the moment, meaning they can’t sign any of them.
Of course, they could create room by doing long-term deals with quarterback Tony Romo or franchised outside linebacker Anthony Spencer, but there are no indications that today’s visits are any kind of sign those are closer.
Mostly, they’re putting in a little face time with guys they might hope to sign later, shoring up some positions where they’re thin at the moment.
Huff is a native of Irving and a former University of Texas star. The former Raiders first-round pick has also drawn interest from the Ravens and Packers, with a visit to Baltimore set for later this week.
