Pat White apparently did enough in a workout after West Virginia’s pro day to earn a second look from the 49ers, or at least a phone call.

The former Dolphins quarterback told Jim Corbett of USA Today that 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh called to set up a private workout, though there isn’t a firm date for it at the moment.

Coach and I had a conversation about me coming in to work out,’' White said. “We haven’t set up a formal date. I’m just going to make sure I keep working hard for when that day comes.

“I pay attention to how his players react to Coach Harbaugh. They all want to win for him. And he seems to treat them how they want to be treated. I’m excited to get to know him on that level — if I do get that opportunity. I’m very optimistic about making it back to the NFL.’'

White’s been working with quarterback guru George Whitfield as he tries to earn a second chance. It’s hard to imagine anyone offering more than camp reps and an opportunity, but that’s all he can ask for at the moment.
