Cowboys agree to sign Justin Durant, someday

The Cowboys can’t give out contracts at the moment, so they’re apparently going for promise rings.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Cowboys have agreed to a two-year deal with Lions free agent linebacker Justin Durant.

The only problem is, they don’t have the cap space to execute said contract, with around $100,000 worth of room. But when they do, Durant’s their guy.

They could create a pile by doing long-term deals for outside linebacker Anthony Spencer or quarterback Tony Romo, but those negotiations are such you don’t want to move too fast.

Because being willing to wait shows true love. Or something.

  1. Durant isn’t a bad player or liability. Sad to see him leave the Lions but Ashlee Palmer can replace him for cheap. Good luck Justin, glad to see you don’t have to turn in that Chick-fil-a application!

  2. Good pick up. Dallas defense doesn’t need stars. Sean Lee, Demarcus Ware are already big time players.

They need solid role players who are dependable. That know their specific duties and do what they need to. Dallas problem is that they don’t have any type of discipline. They expect their talent alone to handle everything. Well when that injury bug hits like it did last year, discipline is needed throughout the roster.

  3. ashlee palmer isnt durant nor can he fill that spot hes a special teamer and 4th lb at best

  4. Nice signing. My only concern is that the best picture they could find of him was one in which he is being dragged by Tony Gonzalez. Maybe questionable against the pass.

  5. @logicalvoicesays dude you guys “ran” the East one year. After going 3-6 for the first half of the season.
This is DEADskin first division championship since 99′ shut up. Your making your fan base look classless

  6. More speed for the cowboys linebackers RG3 comes to mind and this is the point I was makinfg regarding Huff signing they kno they will have cap soon so the guys they brought in were most likely handled the way Durant has been

  7. So to make a long story short there is no deal because there can’t be one until there is cap space.

  8. I heard that the Redskins were looking to sign RGIII again. Had no idea that he was considered “fast”. Rex Grossman III is more of a pocket guy.

  9. @logicalvoicesays: Alfred Morris? Isn’t he the third best running back in NFL history? Behind Riggins and Portis. I’m sure Larry Brown must be in the top 5. Those 4 games Shaun Alexander played for the Redskins were by far his best games ever. Gerald Riggs must be in the top 10 ever. How could I forget the great Stephen Davis? If Westbrook hadn’t punched him out he’d be the greatest ever. ENOUGH ALREADY, LOGICALVOICESAYS!!!!! You look like a fool!!!

Another LB Alfred Morris will run by with ease. #TheRedskinsruntheNFCEast

Another LB to make RGIII think twice before he wants to run!

  11. Up against the cap and franchised Anthony Spencer… definition of SMH move.

The guy is a disappointment as a starter, and that’s not even taking into account the freebie production he gets from playing opposite Demarcus Ware.

I would say cut Free and Spencer for the cap $, but thanks to the tag Spencer’s $10 mil is guaranteed. What incentive does a guy getting paid 5x what he’s worth have to rework his new deal into a multi-year cap friendly one? Unless Jerry Jones works some Bob Kraft magic and offers him a cushy golden parachute gig for when he retires…

  12. Durant will break the Lions to Cowboys stigma. He’s a good, solid LB.

The only reason he was expendable with the Lions is because they drafted some young guys and are hoping/assuming they will get the same production for less money invested in the position. I’ll believe it when I see it with the Lions. Call me hopeful, but doubtful.

The Cowboys have themselves a keeper with this one. Good luck in Dallas, Mr. Durant. Lions fans appreciate you.

When you say “LB” do you mean “Line Backer”, or do you mean “Leg Broken?”

Redskins fans are gonna cry tears of blood this year – it’s gonna be a baaaad year to be one.

@Doomsdaydefensetx…Love the hate bro. I’m sure your still upset about getting sweeped and losing the division. You talk about being “classeless” yet you throw mud on the ‘Skins for overcoming adversity and winning the division. You need to focus on your owner and his horrid cap management b/c you cant afford to sign a fringe FA to a deal.

  15. So what happens now? Jerry the Boss, will put Durant up in a Motel 6, until he can sign a contract?
